Irizar i4: new generation also with alternative drives

A significant reduction in weight and an optimal load distribution per axle – these are two of the key innovations that the Basque commercial vehicle manufacturer has implemented in the latest generation of the i4 bus.

Efficient, sustainable, and profitable – this is how the Basque commercial vehicle manufacturer introduces the new generation of its bus model Irizar i4. The versatile vehicle is suitable as a coach for use in urban environments, for commuter traffic, student transport, as well as for company or occasional events.

The different versions of this vehicle (H, M, L) offer a perfect balance between accessibility and luggage capacity, depending on the needs of the respective operator. The flat or low floors and the barrier-free aisles emphasize the concept of adaptability. The vehicle is available in lengths from 10.8 m to 15 m.

Focus on Weight Reduction

The new generation Irizar i4 comes with significant innovations – foremost among them the substantial weight reduction and optimal load distribution per axle. Depending on the chosen configuration, the bus weighs up to 955 kg less.

The structural redesign and the integration of optimized and innovative technological solutions are expected to result in significant fuel savings of up to 5%, thereby improving CO2 emission reductions.

The implemented solutions include the use of high-strength steel and composite materials as replacements for traditional structural materials, as well as new seats with optimized weight and greater distance between seats, which improves passenger comfort.

A new length, on 2 axles, 63 seats

The changes also make new seating configurations possible – the new Irizar i4 model series includes a new coach version, a 13.23 m long vehicle on a 4 x 2 chassis, with a maximum capacity of 63 seats (59 + 1 PRM), with up to 34 standing places and a luggage compartment volume of over 6 cubic meters.

The various door configurations with single, wide single, and double doors enable the installation of lifts to facilitate access for passengers with disabilities. Important safety measures include the option of a radar in the center of the front. The Irizar front headlights with full-LED option offer up to 30% more light output. All other lighting fixtures are also executed with LED technology.

Also variable in drive

This latest generation of the Irizar i4 is available with diesel, HVO and B100, hybrid, and biogas or natural gas drives (CNG or LNG), depending on whether it is a pure Irizar model or a combination of chassis and body.

What does this mean?

Irizar is broadening the scope of the new i4 – depending on the chassis, also with alternative drives. However, the topic of electromobility is still approached with some hesitation.
