At a partially digital award ceremony for the prestigious "International Van of the Year" for the all-electric PSA 3.0-ton compact transporter at the PSA Group's Research & Development Center in Velizy near Paris, Senior Vice-President Light Commercial Vehicles Business Xavier Peugeot emphasized the success of the electrification of the portfolio. Expectations for sales of the all-electric E-Vans Peugeot e-Expert, Citroën e-Dispatch/ë-Jumpy, Opel & Vauxhall Vivaro-e in the medium segment have been exceeded by more than double. Initially, a market share of five percent was expected, but it is now more than ten percent, and this is although the vehicle has only been on the market for a few months in its commercial variant.

The E-Van has been very well received by customers, who are transitioning to e-fleets much faster than anticipated. This is happening against the backdrop of increasing restrictions in cities to reduce air pollution and, on the other hand, a continuing e-commerce boom with all the demands on delivery services in city centers. The aim is that customers do not have to make any compromises in functionality and performance and can use the E-Van just like a conventional transporter, according to the LCV head.

"We know that 44 percent of our customers in the medium-van segment never drive more than 300 kilometers a day and that 83 percent of them cover less than 200 kilometers. For half of our customers, battery-electric vehicles are highly compatible with their application and also their charging options," explained Peugeot.

But not least, the compact e-van is even a commercial success for the company, Peugeot rejoiced. He accepted the award from the French jury member Richard Pizzol and sees this as a symbol for the correctness of the decision to focus on electrification in commercial vehicles. Peugeot announced further electric models in the form of the Peugeot e-Partner, Citroën e-Berlingo, Opel Combo-e and Vauxhall Combo-e, which have already been presented and are scheduled to be launched in the course of the summer.

The right van at the right time

From a virtual stage, Jarlath Sweeney, Chairman of IVOTY, commented that the electric quartet of the PSA Group gives electromobility in commercial applications a strong boost and helps to scale emission-free transport solutions. The package of a dual-battery concept, a powerful motor, a quiet drive and a consistent DC fast charger as standard convinced the jurors.

"We believe PSA comes with the right offer at the right time," declared the Irish jury chairman.

He added that the 30th edition of the annual award for the best new release in light commercial vehicles, given by 25 specialist journalists from across Europe, was dedicated to the Swedish jury member Anders Karlsson, who passed away unexpectedly last autumn.
