Central Topic Climate Protection: From May 30 to June 3, 2022, the Munich exhibition center will be focused on the sustainable use of resources. As the world’s leading trade fair for water, sewage, waste, and raw materials management, the event is held every two years to showcase the latest developments in environmental technology. According to the organizers, the fair offers the ideal conditions for exchange and networking among professionals.

Global Demand

“Preparations for IFAT Munich are in full swing, all 18 exhibition halls and a large part of the outdoor area are occupied,”

says Stefan Rummel, Managing Director of the organizer Messe München. Current interest can certainly be compared to the record-breaking fair in 2018. So far, around 2,500 registrations have been received from 50 countries, “and we are continuously receiving numerous further inquiries.”

Trending Topic Environmental Protection

Topics such as climate protection and resource conservation are currently in focus worldwide. IFAT brings together international decision-makers, experts, and market players in this field in one place, “to tackle the major challenges together,” Rummel says.

Confident Expectations

The successful implementation of trade fairs even under pandemic conditions has been demonstrated by Messe München with IAA Mobility, Expo Real, Productronica, and most recently in January with TrendSet, Rummel continues. He expects an even better starting position by the end of May:

“Experience shows that the regulations in spring will continue to relax according to the pandemic situation.”

Strong Demand in All Segments

All exhibition areas are said to be well-booked. “In some cases, demand is even greater than the available space.” In the sub-area of “Circular Economy and Waste Management,” for example, Remondis, Veolia, PreZero, EEW Energy from Waste, Arjes, Zeppelin Baumaschinen, Liebherr-Hydraulikbagger, Komatsu, and Zöller-Kipper have registered. For “Water and Sewage,” Huber, Wilo, KSB, Sulzer, Kaeser Kompressoren, Veolia Water Technologies, Siemens, Aco Tiefbau, and Talis, among others, are expected to attend.

According to the information provided, municipal technology is currently represented by Faun Umwelttechnik, Aebi Schmidt, Küpper-Weisser, Bucher Municipal, and Fayat Environmental Solutions; and from the vehicle sector, Iveco Magirus, Scania, Volvo Group Trucks, DAF Trucks, Daimler Truck, and Mercedes Benz are participating.

International Bookings

From all around the world, joint booths for exhibitors are also planned, for example for Belgium, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Turkey, and Hungary. Additionally, representatives from the USA, and from China, Japan, and South Korea in East Asia, are expected. Other countries that have registered so far, according to the organizer, include Egypt, Australia, Brazil, the Ivory Coast, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Ukraine.

Visitor inquiries have been recorded from around the world: delegations from Egypt, Brazil, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, and other countries, including European nations, plan to make the journey at the end of May.

Opportunity for Associations and Start-ups

National and international associations also want to use the environmental trade fair to present themselves and, according to the organizers, are actively participating in designing the trade fair program either as exhibitors or with special shows, live demonstrations, solution tours, or lectures.

Additionally, a start-up area is intended to give young companies the opportunity to showcase themselves. The demand in this regard is very high, notes Philipp Eisenmann, Project Manager of IFAT Munich. "They urgently need access to the markets to bring their innovative solutions to the world." And that is precisely the advantage of trade fairs:

"All relevant market players meet face-to-face in one place, expand their network, and drive their business success forward."
