Under the motto "People and Goods on the move," the IAA Transportation will take place from September 20 to 25, 2022, on the grounds of Deutsche Messe AG in Hannover. In addition to the presentation of new vehicle models, the focus will also be on logistics, transport, and the digitalization of commercial vehicle traffic on the path to climate neutrality.

Exhibitors from 40 Countries

According to its own statements, the previous IAA Commercial Vehicles broadens the range of topics and exhibitors under the new name IAA Transportation and aims to become the leading international platform for logistics, commercial vehicles, buses, and the transport sector. The expanded event concept aims to connect relevant manufacturers and suppliers from the commercial vehicles, buses, and logistics sectors with leading tech providers, says the organizer, the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA). An important goal of the new concept is to increasingly focus on climate-neutral and technological transformation of the entire transport sector as an international platform.

The current registration status makes it clear that the concept expansion is being positively received by the industry. Exhibitor registrations from more than 40 countries are already on hand. The high registration rate is gratifying and underscores the exhibitors' desire to once again offer customers a live experience with the new products, says Jürgen Mindel, VDA Managing Director.

Four Theme Days

The new concept of IAA Transportation will also implement a combination of product presentations, professional audience, and expert exchange within the framework of the IAA Conference 2022. To enable exhibitors and visitors to have the best possible presence of their target audience, four different main themes will be the focus of the IAA Conference each day.

  • FUTURE LOGISTICS, with topics such as supply chains, trucks, railway & shipping integration, e-mobility and hydrogen technology in heavy-duty traffic and light and heavy commercial vehicles, as well as technological and digital innovations for the logistics chain
  • TRADE & LOGISTICS, with topics like the last mile, urban logistics, vans, transporters, cargo bikes, delivery robots, digitization and innovative solutions for retail, e-commerce
  • INFRASTRUCTURE, with topics such as charging infrastructure for electricity and hydrogen, expansion of data networks, data management, long-distance bus travel, rail connections
  • INNOVATIONS IN PUBLIC TRANSPORT, with topics such as buses, electrification, hydrogen, ride-sharing, ride-hailing, MaaS, digital networking of existing offers

Interested companies and associations can contact the organizer to contribute their concepts.

IAA Last Mile Experience Area

The IAA Transportation aims to present an innovative new hall concept with the Last Mile Experience Area. According to the VDA, for the first time at a trade fair, a complete cityscape will be built indoors, within which the latest Last Mile solutions will be showcased in application. The use of package drones, delivery robots, e-transporters, e-cargo bikes, as well as innovations from the Internet-of-Things, data networks and cloud technologies, SaaS platforms, and decentralized hubs will be demonstrated.

With the new format, we want to bring together city planners, technology providers, food retailers, and delivery services with the logistics industry stakeholders, mayors, and municipal politics. Only with intelligent, innovative, and socially accepted solutions will we be able to meet the growing demand for inner-city logistics and move towards climate neutrality, says Mindel.

Awarding of Prestigious Industry Prizes

At the IAA Transportation, prizes will also be awarded in various mobility industry branches. The winners of the prestigious competitions "Bus of the Year," "Coach of the Year," and for the first time "Cargo Bike of the Year" will be presented and honored.

We are in good talks with "Truck of the Year," "Trailer Innovation Award," and "Van of the Year," and I am optimistic that we will be able to present all these awards in Hannover in 2022, granting them the greatest possible attention. We are particularly pleased to be able to welcome the "Cargo Bike of the Year" to the IAA. This clearly shows how diverse our portfolio is, says Mindel.
