IAA TRANSPORTATION 2024: Test e-cargo bikes on the new cargo bike course

The organizers of the commercial vehicle and transport trade fair in Hannover completely redesigned the cargo bike course. In addition to test rides for visitors, the course will also be used for the International Cargobike of the Year Awards.

The organizers of IAA TRANSPORTATION 2024 (September 17 to 22, Hannover) have again initiated a test track for cargo bikes. The new "IAA Cargobike Parcours" was completely redesigned based on feedback from exhibitors and visitors in 2022 and shines in a modern design. The over 1,000 square meter riding area features six elements or obstacles that simulate real road conditions, aiming to provide a varied test ride experience.

The elements include:

  • crossing over rough cobblestones
  • crossing over speed bumps
  • driving up/down straight curbs
  • crossing over loose gravel/sand
  • driving up/down side curbs
  • as well as inclines and declines.

Various curve situations and an acceleration stretch round off the course. This year, the cargo bike track has also moved from the outdoor area to Hall 13. This makes the test area wind- and weather-protected.

Right next to the track are the stand areas of the registered exhibitors. Here, visitors have access to the cargo bikes and receive tips from the experts before their test rides. To take a test ride, it is sufficient to inquire about a test ride of the desired brand at the stands and register for a ride. After a brief introduction to the vehicle, you proceed to the check-in container at the entrance of the course, where the participation conditions need to be signed before the start and a control wristband is issued. The participating exhibitors are Antric, CityQ, Dynamic Drives Giessen, Loadr.pro, and Riese & Müller.

International Cargobike of the Year Award

On Thursday, September 19 at 4:30 PM, the ceremonial award ceremony of the International Cargobike of the Year Awards will also take place on the Cargobike Parcours. The cargo bike award, launched in 2019 by HUSS-VERLAG, recognizes the efforts of cargo bike manufacturers in developing innovative and practical bicycle concepts for professional use. A jury of cargo bike experts will use the cargo bike course of IAA TRANSPORTATION to conduct their own test rides of the 2024 candidates.

The International Cargobike of the Year Award is divided into three categories: Light Cargobikes (less than 100 kg payload), Heavy Cargobikes (more than 100 kg payload), and Bike-Trailer (trailers).
