IAA Mobility 2023: Renault Kangoo E-Tech to be launched as a stretch version
With the Grand Kangoo, Renault presents at the IAA Mobility 2023 in Munich the long version of the Kangoo, which, in addition to variants with petrol and diesel engines, also comes as a fully electric Grand Kangoo E-Tech Electric. Up to seven seats - although the last row is more like emergency seats for children - and up to 3,750 liters of loading volume make the long version a versatile private and commercial station wagon. Ordering starts at the end of 2023, and deliveries will begin in early 2024.
The Electric is powered, like the short version, by Renault's own 90 kW/122 PS externally excited synchronous motor. The maximum torque is 245 Nm, and the energy is drawn from a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 45 kWh. This should be sufficient for 265 kilometers in WLTP. In Eco mode, the power of the electric motor drops to 56 kW/75 PS, and the top speed is limited to 110 km/h. The battery consists of eight modules that can be individually repaired. Renault provides a warranty of eight years or 160,000 kilometers for the battery. If its capacity drops below 70 percent of the nominal capacity (SoH), Renault will replace it free of charge under this warranty.
Standard with 22 kW in AC, but only 80 kW optionally
Ex-factory, the Grand Kangoo E-Tech is equipped with an AC onboard charger with 22 kW charging power, which allows the battery to be charged from 15 to 80 percent of its capacity in 2:40 hours. Alternatively, a version with a charger for 22 kW AC and 80 kW DC is available, which can charge enough energy for a distance of 80 kilometers in ten minutes and electricity for a distance of 170 kilometers in 27 minutes. In combination with the fast charger, the battery is liquid-cooled. This ensures that the operating temperature remains within the optimal range even under high load or extreme temperatures, advantageous on long highway journeys where the battery must consistently supply energy.
Electrical resistors in the battery pack complete the system. They bring the battery to the optimal temperature level more quickly in cold weather. To maximize the range throughout the year, the new Grand Kangoo E-Tech Electric has a 2-zone climate control system with a heat pump. In addition to providing excellent thermal comfort, it offers an additional range of up to 30 kilometers. Finally, the new Grand Kangoo E-Tech Electric is available with a heated windshield, as well as steering wheel and front seat heating.
In the Grand Kangoo and Grand Kangoo E-Tech Electric, up to 13 driver assistance systems enhance comfort and active safety. This includes the highway and traffic jam assistant, which can take full control of the vehicle within certain limits on a highway or multi-lane road with lane markings and steer independently. To do this, the level two assistance system ("partially automated driving") centers the minivan within its lane and follows it.
The seats in the second and third rows are individually adjustable, foldable, retractable, and removable. This allows for a variety of seating configurations. For example, the middle seat in the second row can be removed, providing six spacious seating options.
