The organizers of IAA MOBILITY, VDA, and Messe München have announced that they will provide the platform for the meeting of important public transport stakeholders in Bavaria. The future of public transportation is a significant topic for the future, not only in the Free State of Bavaria. The so-called public transportation summit is organized by Tourismus Oberbayern München (TOM) e.V.

“IAA MOBILITY is the most important mobility platform in the world. Therefore, we are particularly pleased to be able to hold the public transportation summit within the framework of this year's IAA MOBILITY. This allows all summit participants to comprehensively inform themselves about all aspects of climate-friendly mobility. Especially for tourism, it is important to offer well-networked, intermodal concepts. This way, we can act sustainably in the medium term and maintain and develop our attractive living and leisure space for guests and locals," promotes Oswald Pehel, Managing Director of Tourismus Oberbayern München (TOM) e.V., and initiator of the public transportation summit.

A total of 18 institutions have already registered for the public transportation summit, including the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Munich Transport and Tariff Association (MVV), the Munich University of Applied Sciences, Deutsche Bahn (DB), Bayerische Oberlandbahn, BEG, Oberbayernbus, Munich Transport Company (MVG), Bavarian Lake Navigation, ADAC, and other tourism associations, according to the organizer.

The future of tourist mobility to be strengthened through public transportation

The participants want to discuss the future of tourist mobility in Upper Bavaria. The aim is to increasingly use public transportation to network all regions. Around one year after the introduction of the nationwide Nine-Euro Ticket and five months after the launch of the Germany Ticket, interest groups want to discuss future opportunities, achievable goals, and visions. Good networking between urban and rural areas is not only important for tourism, but also for the overall future development of public transportation, according to the organizers.

With the Germany Ticket, passengers have been able to travel throughout Germany using public transportation for 49 euros per month since May 2023. The public transportation summit will particularly discuss and evaluate the experiences with the tourist use of the ticket. Strategies and solutions for the so-called "last mile" will also be discussed, as there is often no solution yet for the journey from the train station to the hotel or the cable car station.

“We are delighted that the public transportation summit is using IAA MOBILITY for this high-caliber meeting, thus gaining even more significance as a place of future-oriented exchange,” explain Christine von Breitenbuch, Messe München, and Jan Heckmann, VDA, both project leaders of IAA MOBILITY 2023.

The German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) and Messe München are partners in organizing the fair. The IAA Summit and the accompanying IAA Conference will take place from September 5 to 8, 2023, at the exhibition center in Munich-Riem, targeting trade visitors. The B2B event offers the expertise of around 500 experts in six halls and on three stages, including groundbreaking keynotes.

The IAA Summit is, according to the organizers, the most important international B2B platform for mobility, industry experts, representatives, and journalists, and has established itself as a leading mobility platform. At this year's IAA MOBILITY, the two target groups, trade visitors (B2B) and the general public (B2C), will be served separately both in terms of space and content. In the IAA Open Space, the mobility of tomorrow will be brought to downtown Munich. The general public (B2C) will have free access here, according to the organizer.
