The Taiwanese lightweight electric specialist Gaius used the stage of the IAA Mobility in Munich to present its new E-Cargobike Rapide Lite alongside the tilting technology E-Cargotrike Rapide 3. They also announced that the E-Scooter is EU-certified and will be available in Europe from the end of 2023. The brand-new, commercially oriented cargo quad relies on a modular steel frame that can be clad with attachments. For instance, additional storage compartments in the standard box format of twice 25 liters (15 kg) can be added as Module 1 in front of the driver, alongside weather protection, side panels, and seamless integration with the specially developed cargo structure.

A frunk (module 2) made of recyclable plastic can also be showcased here, with a substantial 125-liter trunk and 50-kilogram load capacity. At the back, module 3, with a flatbed and up to 200 kilograms load capacity, ensures flexible build options, such as a pick-up, a cargo box with volumes from 1 to 1.5 to 2 cubic meters, or even as a cooler. Under the floor, module 4 can accommodate items like a handcart in a robust aluminum sliding drawer. The total weight of the E-Cargobike, which weighs only 175 kilograms when empty, is expected to be around 480 kilograms. Naturally, for the Taiwanese, a telematics box with 4G and GPS tracking is included.

The pedal assistance is provided by a 48-volt mid-motor with 130 Nm torque, with power transmission through a 7-speed automatic transmission. An 80-kilometer range with e-support is said to be achievable with two 1.24 kWh batteries. These can be recharged in eight hours.

Chassis Based on Automotive Principles

From a chassis perspective, an elaborate, automotive-derived independent suspension with double wishbones at the front is used, along with a rigid axle with trailing arms and springs and a chain-linked differential at the rear, designed to reduce body movements and protect the cargo. In addition, robust hydraulic disc brakes from the automotive sector are installed at the front and rear. For a quad, the turning radius of 2.2 meters is very compact, as is the length of 2.70 meters, including a 1-m³ structure, with a height of two meters and an acceptable width of one meter.

Production is to be CO2-neutral, and the company is also ready to manufacture at extremely high volumes for this class, exceeding 1,000 units per year. According to information at the stand, the model is soon to arrive in Europe and Germany at an extremely competitive price. One can be very excited about this new addition to the cargo bike segment.
