The Baden-Württemberg energy provider EnBW has announced additional investments in the expansion of fast-charging infrastructure ahead of the IAA Mobility in Munich. The energy company aims to create the framework conditions for a successful ramp-up of e-mobility. By 2030, it plans to operate around 30,000 fast-charging points in Germany. To achieve this, the company is increasing investments in the e-mobility sector to around 200 million euros per year. Previously, the annual investment amount was more than 100 million euros.

“Fast-charging infrastructure is the foundation for a successful mobility transition: because where drivers can already find a dense and powerful public charging network, the decision for an electric vehicle becomes much easier,” says EnBW board member Colette Rückert-Hennen.

The company is "the driving force – both in terms of the size and quality of our fast-charging network." This is set to grow further. The groundbreaking for five fast-charging parks is announced around the time of the IAA. In September alone, the energy company will start building five covered fast-charging parks across the country. One large site will be constructed in Posthausen, east of Bremen. In North Rhine-Westphalia, a charging park will be built in the south of Bielefeld, and another in Bavarian Alfeld, east of Nuremberg. Two locations will be established in Rhineland-Palatinate – one at the Nahetal triangle and the other in Gau-Bickelheim. The new fast-charging facilities, along with many other locations, are expected to come online this year. At all fast-charging parks, it will be possible to charge with up to 300 kilowatts, allowing up to 400 kilometers of fresh range to be added in 20 minutes, depending on the vehicle.

The charging network currently includes half a million charging points in 17 European countries. The same tariffs apply across borders. Currently, they operate the largest fast-charging network in the country with over 3,400 charging points, which also includes 27 solar-roofed charging parks. Locations are set up where they are needed, such as on highways, federal and state roads, or where people park their vehicles anyway, such as at larger parking lots in city centers and at commercial sites.

Mobility and Charging Offer at the IAA Open Space

EnBW is present for the second time at the world's largest mobility fair, the IAA. Starting September 5, 2023, the company will have a stand at Königsplatz in the IAA Mobility Open Space in Munich and aims to present sustainable charging parks of the future. With their concept, they focus not only on ecological goals: The so-called 'NextLevel Charging Parks' also includes improvements in inclusion, such as low-barrier charging spots.

"From our perspective, e-mobility is a comprehensive system – with customers and their needs at the center. All aspects of e-mobility must be intelligently interconnected for this. The IAA motto 'Experience Connected Mobility' perfectly encapsulates our approach to the mobility transition," explains EnBW board member Rückert-Hennen.

They aim to align with customers' daily lives, and offer digital solutions like Apple CarPlay or AutoCharge to make charging even more convenient.
