The daring limousine of the "new class" is set to be followed by an SUV in 2026 – whose prototype does not appear nearly as progressive as the limousine. At least, CTO Frank Weber promised around 30 percent more range, 30 percent faster charging, and 25 percent more efficiency. And since the investment is so significant, the new class must permeate all models.

Our British colleagues from Autocar have already done the math: the SUV could then offer around 580 kilometers of range according to WLTP and charge with up to 270 kW HPC. One can be curious about the iX3 successor: the "film car" of the IAA would be suitable as a replacement, but X3 prototypes are already being driven. It could well be that it will initially start again only as a combustion engine. According to Auto Motor and Sport, the board was supposed to have approved the design of the first two models, internally known as NA0 and NA5, by the end of June 2022. The SUV comes rounder than the limousine with a kidney grille, "shark nose," and Hofmeister kink at the rearmost window.

CEO Zipse has announced that BMW will introduce six models of the New Class from 2025 to 2027 – and added: "From SUVs to sedans, we will have something for every customer."

What does that mean?

Of course, an SUV will also come from the new class. However, its roundness is astonishing, as it does not fit with the edges of the sedan. It is also questionable how BMW will integrate the new SUVs into the program: the new X3 is likely to be ready for series production in 2024...
