IAA 2020: VDA cancels commercial vehicle fair

The health risks of the Corona pandemic and the associated measures to contain it have fundamentally changed the initial situation for the IAA Commercial Vehicles, according to a statement from the VDA. The Corona pandemic has indeed shown the public and many citizens in a special way how essential commercial vehicles are for maintaining public life support. In economic terms, the industry and also the IAA are being affected like never before, according to the association. The statement continues:

“In many countries, there are travel restrictions that will need to be observed for several months. Major events are banned in almost all European countries in the coming months. Direct interaction at a trade fair is no longer compatible with the IAA's standards in the context of the Corona pandemic.”

This decision to cancel was not easy:

“But given the international and European overall situation, we see no possibility of holding the IAA this year in its usual form that is adequate for exhibitors and visitors.”

The many exhibitors who had already registered for IAA 2020 were immediately informed of this decision by the VDA, as were all service providers, Deutsche Messe AG, and all partners in politics and business. The association stated that the cancellation was communicated to exhibitors and service providers as early as possible to minimize the economic burden on the companies.

The next IAA Commercial Vehicles is scheduled to take place in September 2022.

What does this mean?

Safety first: Since the development of the Corona pandemic worldwide cannot yet be estimated, the VDA pulled the plug on IAA 2020 as a precaution. The time is also likely to be used to possibly adapt the trade fair format analogously to the passenger car IAA, which has recently struggled with exhibitor losses.
