After the tire manufacturer, together with H2 Green Power & Logistics under their distribution brand H2 Delivery, sent a hydrogen-powered truck on Hankook SmartFlex tires on a roadshow across Germany, it will now be used for the first time in everyday business. The handover of the hydrogen trucks on Hankook tires to the logistics cooperation of Samsung SDS and H2 Delivery took place in Magdeburg. Manfred Zoni, sales director and head of sales truck and bus at Hankook Tire Germany, stated:

“We are very pleased to actively shape this pilot project together with our partner H2 Green Power & Logistics GmbH, and we appreciate the trust that the specialists in green hydrogen for commercial vehicles place in our products. Together, we are contributing to making the transport sector a bit more sustainable with this technology.”

A fleet strength of 150 trucks planned

The tire manufacturer stated that they have equipped the Hyundai Xcient Fuel Cell hydrogen trucks with the SmartFlex series, which offers high safety reserves and increased load capacity.

With the joint project "Smart Green Logistics" between Samsung SDS and H2 Delivery, a logistics cooperation has come about that uses Hankook-tired Hyundai Xcient Fuel Cell hydrogen trucks in regular operation. In real everyday operations, they will prove their practicality before the fleets are gradually expanded to a total of 150 vehicles with alternative drives by 2030.

In collaboration with Hyundai, Hankook sent a Xcient Fuel Cell with SmartFlex tires on a roadshow in 2021 addressing sustainability in logistics. Comprehensive supply of the necessary "fuel" was ensured by H2 Green Power & Logistics. The business model of the company includes a complete ecosystem for green hydrogen in commercial vehicle mobility under their sales brand H2 Delivery. Otto Uhlhorn, COO and authorized signatory at H2 Green Power & Logistics GmbH:

"We are bringing the energy transition to the streets – that doesn't work without tires. We are particularly pleased to have Hankook as a partner by our side, who with sense and passion for sustainable innovations gets our climate-friendly vehicle fleet rolling."

According to its own statements, Hankook aims to commit to a climate-friendly and sustainable industry with the project. By 2050, the tire manufacturer plans to use 100 percent sustainable raw materials and reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 50 percent compared to 2018 by 2030.
