Hyundai: Wallbox complete package complements vehicle purchase

The Korean automobile manufacturer Hyundai has introduced a comprehensive package for home charging infrastructure, which will be sold in addition to the vehicles. This includes the option for customers to order high-performance and user-friendly wallboxes for the home electrical network, including testing and installation, from the dealers. The complete package with professional installation costs from 2,099 euros and can also be integrated into the financing or leasing offer of the new car. Customer advisors will assist with installation planning. The manufacturer also advertises with significantly higher charging power delivered compared to a household outlet, for example, 2.3 kilowatts (kW).

During the preliminary check, the most important prerequisites for the installation of the wallbox are clarified using a special online tool, for instance, whether the customer lives in a single-family home or a rented property. Thereafter, the home check is carried out, for which a locally based electrical contractor is rapidly commissioned to come to the house. Subsequently, the customer receives the final offer for their wallbox from the contracting partner. The complete price includes all necessary laying and installation work as well as the inspection of the system and registration with the power supplier. The 199-euro cost for the home check is only incurred if the offer is not accepted, the manufacturer further specifies.

Fully Charged Overnight

The basic wallbox offers flexible charging capacities between 3.7 and 11 kW and is thus compatible with the Ioniq Electric and Kona Electric models, which can be charged on the AC power network with a maximum of 7.2 kW. The onboard charger of the Kona Electric with a 150 kW (204 PS) electric motor also accepts the full 11 kW charging power of the wallbox. The charging time is significantly shorter than charging via a normal household outlet, allowing the full range of the electric vehicles of up to 484 kilometers (according to WLTP standard) to be restored. Additionally, connecting to the wallbox is much safer and more comfortable.

“With a wallbox, our customers can use their electric vehicles much more effectively. And they have their own 'gas station' right at their doorstep. A luxury that is not possible with traditional drives," says Jürgen Keller, managing director of Hyundai Motor Germany.
