Hyundai has extensively revamped the Ioniq 5, aiming to improve both its range and connectivity. With an increased battery capacity, boosted from 77.4 kWh to an impressive 84 kWh, the updated Ioniq 5 now promises a range of up to 570 km according to WLTP, with real-world conditions ensuring at least 400 km even under the worst conditions. Innovations in battery technology also allow drivers to optimize charging with a manually activated battery pre-conditioning, enhancing charging efficiency.

The aerodynamics have been subtly refined

The appearance of the Ioniq 5 has also been refreshed, featuring a redesigned V-shaped trim and new bumpers that emphasize the vehicle's wide stance and low center of gravity. An extended rear spoiler and a new wheel design are intended to improve aerodynamics, which also contributes to the range. Unfortunately, the length of the Ioniq has increased by 20 millimeters to 4,655 millimeters, while width (1,890 millimeters), height (1,605 millimeters), and wheelbase (3,000 millimeters) remain unchanged.
Inside, Hyundai focuses on enhanced user-friendliness and comfort, introducing features such as a physical button on the multifunction island for frequently used functions and a higher-positioned smartphone holder with wireless charging capability. The steering wheel has also been redesigned, equipped with LED pixels—a feature known from the sister model IONIQ 6.

Thanks for that: wireless smartphone integration

Connectivity reaches a new level with the latest generation of the Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC), offering wireless smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as over-the-air updates to keep vehicle software continuously up to date. Other highlights include improved safety and comfort features such as Remote Park Assist 2.0, an intelligent headlight system, and a camera-based attention assist that enhances the driving experience by making it safer and more enjoyable.

The suspension has also been improved

For a smoother ride and less vibration, the shock absorbers have been revised. The stiffer cross member at the cowl reduces steering wheel vibrations. For greater stability and agility, reinforcements on the rear wheels and the lower part of the vehicle have been doubled again. The body stiffness has also been increased to reduce low-frequency noise. Additional sound insulation on the rear motor has further optimized the noise level. Reinforcements in the front and rear doors and the B-pillar contribute to higher side impact protection. Seven airbags, including side airbags for the second row of seats, complete the comprehensive safety package.

Sporty Look: The New N-Line

For enthusiasts, Hyundai also announces the introduction of the sporty N Line version, which features a more aggressive design, exclusive 20-inch alloy wheels, and a specially designed interior that combines sportiness with comfort. Inside the IONIQ 5 N Line, a special N Line sports steering wheel, N pedals, a black headliner, and N Line sport-comfort seats with red contrast stitching create an exclusive ambiance. Additionally, two seat cover variants are available: a fabric-leather combination and an Alcantara-leather combination. The introduction in South Korea starts immediately, with Europe to follow later this year.

What does it mean?

The rapid development of electromobility is showcased by the Ioniq 5: After three years, the Ioniq 5, already not lacking in range or charging performance, is stepping up again: with a slightly denser-packed battery and better aerodynamics for noticeably more range and optimized infotainment – which indeed had room for improvement. Exact data and prices will follow, the latter likely to rise moderately.
