Enginius is a subsidiary of the Faun Group and will soon be using HTWO fuel cell systems from Hyundai for their vehicles. The companies have now signed a contract for this. Hyundai will supply Enginius with 90-kW fuel cells. The technology is proven, as Hyundai has already sold 30,000 vehicles worldwide with the HTWO-FCEV system (fuel cell electric vehicle) through the Nexo. Enginius is Europe's first vehicle manufacturer with an EU type approval for electrically powered trucks with hydrogen fuel cell systems (FCEV). Sixty Bluepower hydrogen refuse vehicles (we reported) are already in use across Europe by waste management service providers. The Citypower for medium-heavy freight transport, which was presented by Enginius at this year's IAA Transportation, will be equipped with the HTWO fuel cell system for field testing starting in 2024 and is scheduled to go into series production in 2025.

“The strategic partnership with Enginius is another important milestone in the HTWO mission to free humanity from dependence on fossil fuels in the commercial vehicle market,” said Taewon Lim, Executive Vice President Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Business Center Hyundai Motor Group. “It is the first time we are delivering our fuel cell system on a large scale to another manufacturer.  The 1,100 H2 trucks envisioned by Enginius will significantly expand Hyundai's fuel cell business.”

“I am very pleased that we were able to gain the Hyundai Motor Group, a renowned expert in the field of fuel cell technology, as a partner,” said Patrick Hermanspann, CEO FAUN Group.

Thorsten Baumeister, CEO Enginius Trucks Division, adds: “Our customers will benefit from the collaboration and expertise of the partners. This gives climate-neutral freight traffic a significant boost.”
