Hyundai Santa Fe: Issues with AC Charging
My colleague had already warned me: he needed three (!) attempts before the Santa Fe finally started charging… in fact, we knew the problem from the Kia EV9 to some extent: Here, it helped to gently push the charging plug upwards to persuade the giant to take in power.
This didn’t help during our second charging attempt at all. Although the charging socket lit up orange and inside the Santa Fe reported “green,” and we went to the desk. Only to find out that it wasn't charging. Next trick: Get the Mennekes cable for the Mennekes station, which we had done before. Still nothing, switching to the other charging point. Still nothing.
Approach the second charging station, the same story – the Santa Fe stays at the red charging indicator, meaning: It's NOT taking any power. So back to the first (newer) station, trying again calmly with lots of persuasion AND holding the plug (the plug in the car is actually mounted rather loosely) and behold, on the SEVENTH attempt, the Hyundai starts charging. Sorry, but that’s just unacceptable!
What does this mean?
Electromobility often fails in the details. In the Hyundai group, it's the AC socket that seems to have way too much play. Because if you patiently press it upwards (please do so for a long time until the devices have completed their handshake and decide to start charging), after several attempts, charging might succeed. Still, for me personally, it's a reason to advise against the Santa Fe Plug-in…
