Hyundai is also making updates to the Ioniq 5 for the 2023 model year: the increase in battery capacity from 72.6 to 77.4 kWh corresponds to two additional modules that will be installed in the pack in the future. The smaller battery option remains at 58 kWh. The larger batteries are expected to be installed after the summer holidays and benefit the 2023 model year.

Battery preconditioning is likely to work faster via over-the-air update. So far, Hyundai had only announced this update via mailing to customers. Conveniently, as soon as a route to a fast charging station is planned in Hyundai's own navigation system, the battery will be heated or cooled in the future to be at the optimal temperature window at the start of charging. According to the manufacturer, this should guarantee improved real-world charging performance in cold ambient conditions.

What does that mean?

The new software focus also has its advantages: new models can receive updates and be improved after a short production period. It remains questionable why Hyundai did not immediately install the larger battery in the Ioniq 5, which requires mechanical intervention that cannot be done "over the air."
