Hylane expands H2 truck fleet - with funding
The growth of the fleet is made possible by funding from the Federal Ministry for Digital Affairs and Transport (BMDV). With the help of the funding, the company aims to expand the fleet by 78 hydrogen trucks and keep rental rates low. According to Hylane, the funding is passed on to customers 100 percent through reduced rental rates.
Ministerial Director Johannes Wieczorek handed over the funding notice of 25 million euros on May 9 at the transport logistic trade fair in Munich to Hylane executives Sara Schiffer and Bernd Zens. Ministerial Director Johannes Wieczorek:
"To achieve climate goals, CO2 emissions in transportation must be significantly reduced. We are very pleased to support Hylane on the way to sustainable road haulage."
According to Hylane CEO Sara Schiffer, the funding is used exclusively to reduce rental rates for users:
"Through our rental model, we provide companies with easy access to climate-neutral mobility."
Hylane also announced a new partnership with the commercial vehicle manufacturer IVECO. The two companies aim to collaborate on the provision of fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEV). In addition to sourcing commercial vehicles, they will also cooperate on service, so that customers can have maintenance and repair work carried out at some selected and certified workshops within the IVECO service network in the future. Hylane Managing Director Bernd Zens:
“And while the funds are sometimes only disbursed years after approval, Hylane pays the full purchase price for the vehicles upfront for its tenants. This would not be readily possible for many small and medium-sized transport companies."
The company has also secured DB Cargo Full Load Solutions (FLS) as another new customer. The transport and logistics company is relying on the rental model for the use of climate-friendly trucks. The rented tractor units are initially to be deployed in the Hamburg region.
Sponsored Pioneering Work
The Hylane vehicles are being funded under the guidelines for the promotion of light and heavy commercial vehicles with alternative, climate-friendly drives and associated refueling and charging infrastructure (KsNI) with a total of 39.8 million euros from the Federal Ministry for Digital Affairs and Transport. The funding guideline is coordinated by NOW GmbH, and applications are approved by the Federal Office for Goods Transport. After an initial federal grant of 14.8 million euros in 2021, the company was able to procure 44 vehicles. By the end of 2024, the fleet is expected to comprise 122 trucks.
