High e-bus demand: Ebusco delivers first buses from assembly partners
After production difficulties at Ebusco became known due to problems with supply chains and production processes, the Dutch e-bus manufacturer now aims to collaborate more intensively with international assembly partners. They have already started assembling the Model 3.0 and aim to make the first deliveries in the fourth quarter of this year, according to Ebusco.
We are aware that our operational performance is not where we would like it to be. Therefore, it is important that we continue to focus on implementing our plans to improve this performance. (CEO and founder Peter Bijvelds)
138 buses delivered
Despite the imbalance in the supply chain and the ongoing personnel shortages affecting operations, Ebusco has delivered 138 buses to date in 2023. With the ramp-up in the Deurne main plant in the Netherlands and with assembly partners, the bus manufacturer expects to produce 250 to 300 units in 2023 and revenue of 145 to 165 million euros. It hopes to achieve a positive EBITDA for the first time in 2024.
The delivery of Model 3.0 buses to Transdev has continued steadily throughout the third quarter. Additionally, we are currently in the phase of vehicle acceptance with two customers who will put the 3.0 into operation in the fourth quarter of this year. (Bijvelds)
According to Bijvelds, the operational performance of the 3.0 solo bus with a real energy consumption of 0.65 kWh/km exceeds expectations. At moderate temperatures, it was regularly possible to drive more than 500 km per day with a single charge. Positive feedback has also come from customers, such as Stadtwerke Munich, which has just completed its seventh order with Ebusco, or from BVG and Transdev regarding the operational performance and driving behavior of both the 2.2 and 3.0 models.
Order backlog
In the third quarter, Ebusco received orders for 54 buses. New contracts have been signed with longtime customer and innovation partner Stadtwerke Munich as well as with Fraport, a new order that opens up the airport bus market for the Dutch company. Recently, Ebusco and Deutsche Bahn extended their partnership for the supply of electric buses until 2026 (we reported).
