Hertz: More Electric Cars for Uber
With hardly any other topic in traffic can superficial politicians be so easily flattered as with digital services and electromobility at the same time. Taxi-terror Uber knows this too, and is therefore now expanding its collaboration with Hertz in the large-scale rental of electric vehicles from the USA to Europe. As Hertz announced on January 17, 2023, the company aims to make up to 25,000 electric vehicles available to Uber drivers in European capitals by 2025. The fleet will include models from Tesla and Polestar, among others. The beginning will be in London in 2023, where Hertz Europe has its headquarters. The cooperation is then to be extended to other European capitals such as Paris and Amsterdam.
The Uber CEO said that the partnership is intended (phrased in this order) to significantly accelerate the transition to zero-emission vehicles, help drivers reduce their operating costs, and ease urban traffic. The Hertz CEO added that they want to give more people the opportunity to experience the benefits of electrification. In the USA, according to the two partners, around 50,000 drivers have so far rented a Tesla through their program. They have undertaken 24 million fully electric trips and covered over 418 million electric kilometers.
