Hankook equips VW ID. Buzz with Ventus S1 evo 3 ev
While the ID. Buzz Cargo transporter exclusively comes with 18-inch entry-level tires, the bus version can also be ordered with the 21-inch version.
Premiere of the High-Load, abbreviated "HL" load index identification
In this combination, the first Hankook premium passenger car tire with the "HL" load index identification also premieres. One of the special challenges during the approximately two and a half years of development was adjusting the tires to account for the very high permissible total weight of the VW ID. Buzz and its pronounced driving dynamics on the level of a passenger car. Sanghoon Lee, President of Hankook Tire Europe, proudly explains:
"Hankook and Volkswagen have been working successfully together for many years. Developing the tires for the VW ID. Buzz represents another highlight of this cooperation. We are proud that this vehicle, which reminds of the globally popular "Ur-Bulli," is delivered with Hankook tires from the factory."
The premium tire, specifically designed for electric vehicles, is intended to confidently bring the above-average high drive torque to the road. Additionally, the tire is supposed to offer excellent stability. The foundation for the robust tire carcass of the Ventus S1 evo 3 ev is the double-layer carcass made from a specially developed high-performance fiber, which perfectly combines stability and low weight. Thus, the Ventus S1 evo 3 ev weighs relatively little for its size. This is a topic that Hankook continually addresses and communicates openly. For passenger car tires, this can quickly result in a weight saving of one to two kilograms per set. Additionally, a special tread design ensures quiet acoustic comfort. As a result, the already low noise emissions are further significantly reduced according to Hankook.
Important for electric cars: Abrasion resistance
Another characteristic of the Ventus S1 evo 3 ev is its high abrasion resistance – a result of the tread compound specifically designed for high drive torques. In terms of rolling resistance, the Ventus S1 evo 3 ev also meets the specifications. The Label-A tire can contribute to an increase in range of up to 30 kilometers per battery charge compared to a comparable tire with a B label.
Interesting differences between 18 and 21 inches
Interesting: In the 21-inch dimension for the VW ID. Buzz, an additional steel-based reinforcement in the bead area, due to the reduced sidewall height, contributes to an even higher sidewall stiffness. This is intended to ensure dynamic, direct steering feedback. A distinctive feature of the 21-inch version is also the aerodynamically optimized contour of the rim protection strip, which also contributes to more range.
First Hankook passenger car tire with HL signature
With the Ventus S1 evo 3 ev in the HL 235/45 R21 104T XL and HL 265/40 R21 108T XL versions for the ID. Buzz, Hankook is presenting its first passenger car tires with the "HL" load index identification in its portfolio. Background: The latest generation of high-performance passenger cars and SUVs with battery power are characterized by significantly higher vehicle weight. This requires tires that offer significantly higher load capacity at the same inflation pressure. The Ventus S1 evo 3 ev from Hankook meets this challenge confidently, allowing the VW ID. Buzz to bring its driving dynamics, favored by the low center of gravity, to the road without restrictions. Klaus Krause, head of the Hankook Europe Technical Center in Hannover, explains:
"With the development of the high-load capacity tire, Hankook is further expanding its original equipment portfolio. The tire, adapted to the higher vehicle weight, which is of great relevance for electric transporters, optimally supports the driving characteristics of the VW ID. Buzz."
Sealguard Technology: When Flat Tires Lose Their Fear Factor
The 21-inch dimension of the Ventus S1 evo 3 ev for the ID. Buzz is equipped with Hankook's Sealguard sealing material as an additional comfort and safety feature, which automatically seals punctures of up to five millimeters in diameter in the tire tread area. This allows the vehicle to continue driving even in the case of a nail puncture, for example. A spare tire or repair kit no longer needs to be carried in vehicles equipped with Sealguard, thus providing additional trunk space, saving weight, and eliminating the potentially dangerous tire change at the roadside. In addition to their safety advantages, tires equipped with Hankook's Sealguard technology also offer the usual comfort, as their basic construction does not differ from those without Sealguard—except that the tire here inherently weighs a few extra grams.
The following formats are offered:
235/60 R18 103T Summer FA Hankook Ventus S1 evo 3 ev
255/55 R18 105T Summer RA Hankook Ventus S1 evo 3 ev
HL 235/45 R21 104T XL Summer FA, not for Cargo SEALGUARD® Hankook Ventus S1 evo 3 ev
HL 265/40 R21 108T XL Summer RA, not for Cargo SEALGUARD® Hankook Ventus S1 evo 3 ev
FA= Front Axle, RA= Rear Axle
The 21-inch variant is exclusively reserved for the passenger car version of the ID. BUZZ and is standardly equipped with Hankook Sealguard puncture protection technology.
What does that mean?
Tires are increasingly being developed specifically for particular models, even though Hankook's new electric load carriers will surely also serve well on the Ford e-Transit Custom, Opel e-Vivaro, and others. It's nice that Hankook also addresses the issues of load capacity, tire weight, and run-flat capability.
