The Federal Ministry for Digital Affairs and Transport (BMDV) will promote the establishment of a digital test field in the Port of Hamburg with nearly 15 million euros. Among other things, traffic on the road network in the port is to be optimized. The focus of the SANTANA (Services and Data Network Port of Hamburg) project by the Hamburg Port Authority (HPA) and Dakosy Datenkommunikationssystem AG, which will run for over 30 months, is the development of a digital infrastructure that aims to further connect privately organized logistics with public infrastructure and traffic management.

A marketplace for all stakeholders

The goal is to create a shared "network of networks." The digital service offerings will be made more accessible through a common marketplace for the actors involved in the transport processes in the port and hinterland.

“I am pleased about the promotion of the SANTANA project. This support once again underscores the national importance of the Port of Hamburg. It is important to tap previously unexploited potentials in the networking of multimodal transport and logistics chains, thereby creating economic benefits and reducing emissions,” says Michael Westhagemann, Senator for Economy and Innovation.

“By combining logistical data with information from the infrastructure sector, we achieve a quantum leap in digital transparency. This will further accelerate the processes in the port and hinterland,” says Dieter Spark, Board Member of Dakosy.

Together with the associated partners HHLA, Eurogate, and the Hamburg Vessel Coordination Center (HVCC), the consortium partners HPA and Dakosy will implement a total of six measures in this project to optimize process control on water, road, and rail. Among other things, traffic optimization on the road network in the port is planned through quantum-inspired technology for real-time traffic light control.

"The open test field architecture will offer an environment with easy access for future innovations from business and science through planned Living Labs. SANTANA thus forms the basis for the development of digital service and product innovations, testing under real conditions, and integration into port operations,” says Jens Meier, CEO of HPA.
