Greyp rebrands: The Porsche among e-bikes

The Zuffenhausen-based company is pushing ahead with the integration of its bike brands. Recently, the Greyp brand was renamed to Porsche eBike Performance. In three to four years, there are expected to be standalone e-bikes.

The sports car manufacturer from Zuffenhausen, Porsche, is accelerating the establishment of its own e-bike brand announced last August and already renamed the Croatian bike brand Greyp, acquired in 2021, to Porsche eBike Performance in December. The industry portal Pedelecs & E-Bikes also reported on this. Under this umbrella, independent Porsche e-bikes are set to emerge in the coming years, in collaboration with the Ottobrunn-based e-drive subsidiary Fazua, which was also acquired. The two brands Greyp and Fazua will continue for now, completing current projects, but are expected to gradually integrate under the Porsche umbrella. This signifies the end of the partnership with the previous bike partner Rotwild, whose pedelecs are still equipped with Shimano drives.

Strategically, Porsche sees great growth potential in the e-bike market, which is why they are taking the business into their own hands and investing massively in independent development. The plan is to transfer the DNA from the sports car business to e-bikes and to realize high-performance models that are also fully connected. This includes the integration of drive, battery, battery management, and software.

"Porsche is a brand that has always been at the forefront of new developments - and that is exactly what we are striving for in the rapidly growing e-bike market. In Porsche eBike Performance GmbH, we will consolidate our expertise in electric drives, battery management, digitalization, and future mobility to offer innovative solutions typical of Porsche for e-bike drives. We are highly motivated to shape the future of high-quality drive technologies in the e-bike segment with two strong brands," outlines Jan Becker, CEO of Porsche eBike Performance GmbH.

He promises "compact lightweight units from Fazua for agile e-bikes" as well as particularly high-performance drive systems under the Porsche brand - which will be distributed to bicycle manufacturers worldwide from the middle of the decade.

The own division was established to sustainably drive the transformation of mobility with smart, innovative electric solutions. Locations are in Ottobrunn near Munich and Croatia, bringing together the expertise of the e-bike drive specialist Fazua with advanced software and connectivity solutions from Greyp. This will be enriched with targeted know-how from the Porsche Group to offer high-quality products in the e-bike market, the statement continues.
