The introduction of hydrogen vehicles can be promoted by establishing the corresponding refueling infrastructure. The “String Megaregion” – a coalition of cities and regions in Germany, Denmark, Sweden, and Norway – is taking exactly this path. To solve the problem of refueling infrastructure, the String members and six private companies have initiated a cross-border public-private partnership that aims to support investments in hydrogen refueling infrastructure with EU funds. For this purpose, they are jointly applying for funds from the EU/CEF funding. If the “Greater4H” project gets the nod, it could accelerate the development of hydrogen vehicles across the entire megaregion and make Northern Europe a global leader in the green transition of road transport.

Quantron delivers vehicles

The hydrogen refueling stations will be built and operated by private partners Everfuel (DK), Hynion (NO), and GP Joule (DE). Quantron (DE) will deliver hydrogen vehicles in various weight classes and take on the necessary development of financial and market-based incentives with the aim of increasing the demand for hydrogen trucks. Additionally, Ørsted (DK) and Renova (SE) have joined Greater4H as associated partners. The 13 public members of String will support the project by harmonizing their regulations regarding the delivery of hydrogen infrastructure as much as possible.

The project was developed under the String leadership of the state of Schleswig-Holstein. According to European Minister Claus Christian Claussen, “Emissions-free transport is only possible with an emissions-free refueling infrastructure. If we succeed with Greater4H, it will be a big step for the green transition and would serve as a prime example of how full decarbonization of road transport is achievable.”
