GP Joule orders 10-megawatt electrolysers from H2B2 for logistics projects
The renewable energy company JP Joule has entered into an agreement with the Spanish manufacturer H2B2 for the purchase of five electrolyzers, each with a capacity of two megawatts. Installation is scheduled for early 2024. The electrolyzers will be used in projects with which the North German specialist aims to decarbonize the transport sector. For this, they offer customers from logistics, trade, and industry a complete package from a single source, including hydrogen produced from renewable energies as well as the construction and operation of hydrogen refueling stations and the corresponding fuel cell trucks.
“Our goal is to produce climate-friendly fuel with renewable energies and thus decarbonize heavy-duty transport. To achieve this, we rely on strong partners like H2B2, who, like us, specialize in the production of hydrogen from renewable energies and have many years of market experience," explains André Steinau, Managing Director of GP JOULE HYDROGEN.
High performance from Spain
According to reports, the framework agreement with H2B2 was preceded by an intensive market screening of currently available 2-megawatt electrolyzers. According to Steinau, the electrolyzers from H2B2 have an above-average hydrogen output pressure and can be quickly expanded by an additional 1 megawatt if needed. The systems operate with polymer electrolyte membrane technology (PEM), which is said to be very suitable for fluctuating power supply from renewable energies. They will be compactly and maintenance-friendly mounted in container solutions and manufactured in Seville, Spain.
Fuel-cell trucks for rent as an entry point
GP JOULE has already secured the delivery of fuel cell trucks, it is further stated. Customers from freight forwarding and logistics can use them in a complete package that includes maintenance and service as well as zero-emission fuel. The company builds and operates the corresponding refueling stations and hydrogen production facilities. The hydrogen is to be produced exclusively with renewable energies. The newly signed contract aims to ensure short delivery times and rapid project implementation in the hydrogen production sector.
“The fact that GP JOULE has chosen H2B2's technology to expand Europe's largest network of green hydrogen refueling stations demonstrates the strength of our innovation model,” says Anselmo Andrade, CEO of H2B2.
The North Germans draw on more than ten years of experience in hydrogen development. In the district around its location in North Frisia, the company has realized Germany's largest green hydrogen mobility project, eFarm, and today operates several self-built production sites and refueling stations, has acquired fuel cell vehicles, and secured funding. The company was awarded the German Mobility Prize 2022 for eFarm.
