As part of its "Go Electric" event series for the introduction of electric models, Ford presented a prototype of the new Mustang Mach-E GT in Hamburg. During a presentation at Spielbudenplatz on the Reeperbahn, the US manufacturer explained the technical data of its new high-performance electric vehicle and announced a market launch in Germany for the end of 2021.

3.7 seconds - this is the number Ford is particularly proud of. Despite its impressive SUV dimensions, the Mach-E GT is supposed to match a sports car in a sprint duel from 0 to 100 km/h. Beyond that, the technical values of the full-electric vehicle are also convincing. The Mach-E GT is expected to deliver 342 kW (465 PS) to the road via all-wheel drive. Two electric motors provide a torque of 830 Nm, which can certainly be seen and felt.

"The new Mustang Mach-E GT shows what a purely electric drive can achieve," enthuses Stuart Rowley, President of Ford Europe.

However, the Mustang Mach-E GT is limited to 200 km/h. This is considered a sensible threshold regarding battery stress, as the recommended speed in Europe - except for Germany - is generally only 130 km/h, according to the reasoning. To emphasize the sporty character of the Mach-E, the manufacturer decided to designate its electric crossover with the Mustang label, even though at first glance it does not necessarily appear as a sports car, but rather more as a mid-size SUV. Nevertheless, Ford has made the appearance of the GT variant sportier: various decorations and not least the large 20-inch rims ensure a more striking presence.

Charging with up to 150 kW power

When it comes to charging, the Mach-E makes a solid impression. On one hand, thanks to "Plug and Charge" - in the future, charging stations will recognize the respective user account as soon as they are plugged in and will automatically send the bill shortly after charging. Paying by card will then no longer be necessary. In terms of charging speeds, the large battery version of the Mach-E - standard in the GT - reaches a maximum of 150 kW power. The smaller battery reaches 125 kW. Both versions are thus expected to go from ten to eighty percent in around 40 minutes.

Ford accelerates charging infrastructure: Ionity is not enough

And when it comes to charging infrastructure, Ford is committed to expanding the network. As a member of the IONITY consortium, Ford is pleased to offer its customers free electricity across Europe, but emphasizes that this is still far from sufficient. A comprehensive charging infrastructure, according to Hans Jörg Klein, Managing Director for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, remains the most important prerequisite for the rapid expansion of electromobility and customer acceptance of electrified vehicles.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E - just like the GT variant - can use a charging capacity of up to 150 kW at IONITY and other HPC charging points. In ten minutes of charging time, an average of 119 kilometers is expected. The maximum range of the large 88 kWh battery is said to be up to 610 kilometers according to the WLTP standard. The smaller battery variant stores 68 kWh of energy and is expected to reach at least 400 kilometers. In this case, the maximum charging capacity is 115 kW. For Ford, the affordability of electric vehicles also plays an important role. The "normal" Mach-E is expected to start at 42,000 euros. Ford will comment on the price of the GT version at the appropriate time.
