Germany Network: First Charging Park for Fastned Starts Operations in Düren

Shortly before Christmas, the first official location of the Germany Network, funded by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV), was launched in Düren. The operator here is the Dutch HPC pioneer Fastned. The network is planned to include more than 900 locations. In Düren, electric cars can be charged at four high-performance charging points with a power of up to 400 kW per charging point. This provides the location with the highest charging power currently available in Germany. The first Germany Network charging park also features a roof and lighting. Gastronomic and sanitary facilities are under implementation. The construction of up to eight additional high-performance fast charging points is planned for the charging park.

"With the opening of the first location in the Germany Network, we are ushering in a new phase. It shows that the expansion of a nationwide, demand-oriented, and user-friendly charging infrastructure is progressing. I am convinced that the Germany Network will make the switch to electromobility even more attractive," explained Federal Minister Volker Wissing.

"The future of mobility is electric, and the transportation sector must finally do its part for climate protection. It is fitting that the first charging station of the new Germany network is opened in the number one electromobility country, here with us in North Rhine-Westphalia," stated Mona Neubaur, Minister of Economy, Industry, Climate Protection, and Energy of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

The goal is to tenfold the number of electric vehicles to three million by 2030. This will only be achieved if all citizens can conveniently and easily charge their e-cars everywhere – at work, at home, or in public spaces, Neubaur continued.

First Step Taken – Expansion Must Now Advance Quickly

With the opening of our fast-charging station in Düren, we are setting the pace and sending a clear signal, adds Linda Boll, Country Manager of Fastned Germany. The tender for the Germany network was an important beginning, and now, in collaboration with municipalities and private landowners, attractive locations for the construction of future-proof fast-charging stations need to be found and implemented.

“Our fast-charging station in Düren is barrier-free, offers high comfort due to its roofed area, and will soon be equipped with toilets and a kiosk. The fact that we were able to implement this station so quickly makes us optimistic about collaborating with more cities. To achieve the goal of a nationwide fast-charging infrastructure, we all need to work together,” Boll continues.
