The South Korean premium brand impressively demonstrates its commitment to sustainable luxury and advanced electromobility. The Genesis X Convertible, now presented at an event in California, shares its architecture and electric drive with the other concept vehicles X Concept and X Speedium Coupé, introduced in 2021 and 2022 respectively. The new study is intended to provide further insight into the appearance of future Genesis electric vehicles.

“Athletic Elegance” – the Evolution of Design

The concept convertible features a unique foldable hardtop roof with individual glass panels over the front occupants. With its long hood, short front overhang, and long wheelbase, the Genesis X Convertible possesses the characteristic proportions of the new Athletic Elegance design language. The powerful parabolic line on the sides and the muscular shapes around the wheels are also typical features of the design language.

At the front of the vehicle, there are the brand-typical LED quad headlights, which are a distinctive trademark of the brand. As with the X Speedium Coupé, the headlights are integrated into a striking interpretation of the Crest grille from the combustion engine models. In the fully electric Genesis X Convertible, smaller openings in the lower part of the front bumper handle the cooling for the drive and batteries. At the rear, the concave elliptical shape of the trunk lid with an integrated spoiler catches the eye. The horizontal quad taillights are reminiscent of the lights on the X Concept and X Speedium Coupé, while the striking V-shaped indentation in the trunk lid is influenced by the crest and wings of the Genesis logo. The concept vehicle's wheels feature the brand-typical G-Matrix pattern and have a concave aero-dish shape, which is intended to improve airflow and contribute to brake cooling.

All in white...

The exterior of the Genesis X Convertible Concept is adorned in the special Crane White paint. In Korea, the white crane symbolizes nobility and sanctity and is an important cultural icon that Genesis wanted to incorporate into the concept. The result is a white surface coated with pearl particles, creating a luxurious sheen that frames the contrasting interior. The X Convertible Concept features four seats, and the interior designers placed special emphasis on the immediate driver environment. The wraparound instrument panel, seamlessly integrated with the center console, places the driver at the forefront and accentuates the performance potential of the Genesis X Convertible Concept.

Korean Influences in the Premium Interior

The interior is inspired by the architecture of traditional Korean roofs. The colors Giwa Navy and Dancheong Orange are designed to provide a modern look that perfectly harmonizes with the vehicle's vibrant character. The main interior color is Giwa Navy, named after the "Giwa," the roof tiles of Korean houses. The woven paneling made of recyclable wool fabric contrasts with the smooth and supple surfaces of the leather seats, which are kept in the same color. Dancheong Orange serves as a striking contrast color. It is used for the fine stitching seen throughout the interior. This is the same eye-catching color used for the decorative trim on traditional Korean wooden buildings.

“With the concept trio, we reinforce the sporty and emotional facet of our design philosophy,” explains Chief Creative Officer Luc Donckerwolke. “Electric drives give us the perfect opportunity to enjoy nature – and this is even better with convertibles than with any other vehicle. With the Genesis X Convertible, we build on the success of the X Concept and X Speedium Coupe, continuing the brand’s mission to develop vehicles with even greater emotional impact."

Genesis X Concept and X Speedium Coupe

The Genesis X Convertible is the third electric design study of the brand and a natural evolution of the X Concept. The distinctive two-door coupe, introduced in Los Angeles in 2021, showcases the Genesis design language Athletic Elegance as well as the brand's commitment to a sustainable future. The second vehicle, the X Speedium Coupe, is a high-performance sports coupe inspired by the Inje Speedium racetrack in Korea. It was unveiled in New York in April 2022 and features an evolution of the brand's design, including a striking LED signature in the characteristic Crest grille.

What does that mean?

Very elegant, modern, and incredibly cool. No one has an electric convertible in the lineup, please build it immediately.
