Emission-free transport via e-cargobike is offered by the logistics company to its customers in Vorarlberg. The drivers also come from a labor initiative for long-term unemployed people.

The Austrian logistics and transport service provider Gebrüder Weiss will now also deliver to private households and companies in Lauterach, Wolfurt, Hard, Kennelbach, Schwarzach, Dornbirn, and Bregenz with an e-cargo bike. The cargo bike used is a "Loadster" from the manufacturer Citkar with a dry freight box. It can transport shipments with a total weight of up to 200 kilograms and is expected to cover 80 kilometers per day on a single battery charge. An expansion of the service to additional locations is planned. Gebrüder Weiss expects approximately 900 shipments per month to be delivered using the cargo bike stationed in Wolfurt.

"E-cargo bikes are emission-free, agile, largely independent of traffic conditions, and can drive right up to the recipients' doorsteps – even in pedestrian zones," said Stefan Oberhauser, Branch Manager Vorarlberg Land & Logistics at Gebrüder Weiss.

The cargo bike is operated by employees of Integra Vorarlberg, a social organisation and work initiative for long-term unemployed people.

"We offer our clients new perspectives and opportunities for further development after a long job search. This is one of our central concerns. And we can contribute to the conservation of natural resources, which is also very important to us," said Irena Lang, Managing Director of the social integration company.

Delivery by e-cargo bike is another measure by Gebrüder Weiss to make transport more sustainable. The logistics company already has various alternative truck drives in use and is currently testing an e-truck in everyday logistics in Vorarlberg.
