With a significantly improved result, the second international cycling competition "Cycling around the world" of the Austrian logistics company Gebrüder Weiss has come to an end. In the process, 650 cyclists from around the world collectively covered a distance of 612,246 kilometers. This corresponds to more than 15 times around the globe. The original goal of seven circumnavigations was far exceeded by the participants. For the second time, the logistics company called for the sports competition from April to September. Last year's event ended with a surprise success of six circumnavigations.

"The large international participation has far exceeded our expectations this year. We thank all the participants for their outstanding commitment," said Frank Haas, Head of Communication at Gebrüder Weiss, enthusiastically.

The event is seen not only as a sporting challenge but also as a symbol of sustainable mobility and active climate protection. The company emphasizes this with its reforestation project in Nicaragua: a total of 7,000 trees have been planted for the kilometers driven.

"Contributing to our company forest has motivated many additionally. Meanwhile, a biking community has emerged, showing that we can achieve a lot together," adds Haas.

The participants recorded their ridden routes using a cycling app. An exciting head-to-head race ensued until the end between Janusz Mucha from Poland and Markus Knabl from Austria. With over 17,000 kilometers each, they shared the first place in this year's competition. The cooperation partner for the reforestation project is Primaklima, a non-profit association that has been active for 30 years. The reforestation relieves the atmosphere of around 154 tons of CO2 per year, according to the logistics company.
