The design stands out – of course, it comes from Pininfarina! Foxconn wants to have its own line for its cars. The Model D is intended to be a versatile "Lifestyle Multipurpose Utility Vehicle," abbreviated as LMUV in English, which was designed in collaboration with Pininfarina. Besides, there's the Model U, a medium-sized electric bus for urban mobility solutions.

Foxtron Vehicle Technologies, Foxconn's publicly traded subsidiary responsible for the design and development of these vehicles, also unveiled the first variant of the Model C C. This variant is specifically designed for automotive OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) interested in the North American market.

"We are incredibly proud to present a new model that embodies the best of Pininfarina's design expertise and further strengthens our strategic collaboration with Foxconn," said Silvio Angori, CEO of Pininfarina, and added:

"For almost 95 years, Pininfarina has been at the forefront of combining art and technology, and this partnership with Foxconn represents a natural alignment of our shared culture of perfection and innovation. Foxconn excels in all aspects of its product portfolio, and we are delighted to contribute to the growing range of electric vehicles."

The Model D is based on the design concept of the LMUV (Lifestyle Multipurpose Utility Vehicle) and combines the advantages of the SUV and MPV segments. It is a multifunctional hybrid model that utilizes Foxconn's latest platform technology.

The Model D is 5.1 meters long and has a wheelbase of 3.2 meters, which is supposed to offer a spacious and comfortable interior. An air suspension is intended to improve driving stability. The active suspension allows for height adjustment from 15 mm to 25 mm. The body design integrates specially developed so-called S-channels and air curtains to reduce air resistance and lower the drag coefficient to a low 0.23.

The collaboration between Foxconn and Pininfarina dates back to 2021 when the electric Model E, a luxury sedan with state-of-the-art technology, was presented. It was followed in 2022 by the Model B, a stylish urban crossover that combines beauty with high performance. All vehicles, including the new Model D, were carefully designed at Pininfarina's atelier in Cambiano, Italy, where the team has a long tradition of building custom models, small series, and prototypes for some of the world's most prestigious car brands.

"Our design team placed great emphasis on designing the Model D from the inside out, focusing on maximizing the interior space while maintaining a sleek, aerodynamic exterior," explained Felix Kilbertus, Chief Creative Officer of Pininfarina, and added:

"This approach offers excellent visibility and a modern, sporty feel that appeals to today's drivers. The Model D represents a significant advancement over conventional SUVs, offering a spacious interior within a monolithic, aerodynamic body. We are thrilled with the intense cooperation with Foxconn, which has enabled us to create a unified family of electric vehicles, including the Model E, the Model B, and now the Model D."

What does this mean?

Foxconn is serious: The company combines new approaches in electric vehicle production with Pininfarina's design and thereby positions itself independently. It will be interesting to see how the models will be received in China and later worldwide.
