Formula E: Jaguar TCS Racing has unveiled the I-Type 6
The 2023 season of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship is the one Jaguar intends to win: after many race victories last season, but lacking some consistency, the new I-Type is expected to score reliably from the first race on January 14th. The I-Type 6 also has a second electric motor on the front axle; together with the E-engine on the rear axle, the I-Type 6 can recover up to 600 kW (250 kW front, 350 kW rear) - double the energy recovery compared to the previous Gen2 I-Type 5. For the ninth season, Wolfspeed is the new official supplier of high-performance semiconductors.
More recuperation makes rear brakes redundant!
Thanks to the generators on both axles, the more compact and thus even more agile Gen3 racing car can do without rear brakes. Generation 3 cars promise even faster and tougher wheel-to-wheel battles on street circuits around the globe. Thanks to new cutting-edge technology, the 74-kilogram lighter Gen3 Formula car from Jaguar, with a power output of now 350 kW (475 PS), can reach a top speed of up to 320 km/h.
Jaguar is also redefining itself visually: the completely new, asymmetrical livery design by the Jaguar creative team gives the Generation 3 car a fresh appearance and each vehicle an individual color pattern. There is continuity among the drivers: after their highest points haul in the 2022 season, drivers Mitch Evans and Sam Bird, who are entering their third season together with Jaguar, bring valuable experience and continuity to the team.
Sustainability is also taken care of: Jaguar TCS Racing is starting the ninth season of Formula E with a three-star eco-certificate from the FIA – underscoring its commitment to sustainability
What does this mean?
Jaguar is currently more successful in Formula E than in global sales and therefore needs to reinvent itself: Three all-electric model series are planned. The "basis" is the successor to the I-Pace, which will have several versions in the future, driving the SUV or CUV theme forward and ensuring volume sales. In addition, a luxury sedan is expected to carry on the XJ heritage and the F-Type is also likely to receive a successor – especially since there is little new in the E-segment for coupes/convertibles. The technology transfer from the Jaguar I-TYPE 6 to series production is also intended to support Jaguar's future as an exclusively electric luxury brand.
