Ford subsidiary Spin launches e-scooters in Cologne

The micromobility division of the Ford Motor Company, Spin, will expand internationally for the first time. The company announced that it will launch its first international fleet of free-floating electric scooters in Cologne this spring, with other German cities to follow soon after. To further expand its international presence, Spin plans to apply in March for the official electric scooter tender by the city of Paris. Additionally, the provider is exploring opportunities to participate in upcoming procedures for electric scooter pilot projects in the United Kingdom.

In the U.S., Spin is a trusted partner for over 60 cities and 25 universities, with more than 20 exclusive partnerships, and is developing long-term affordable and reliable mobility alternatives for commuters. The provider emphasizes that rider safety always comes first. It also coordinates closely with local authorities before entering a new market and expands its fleet only in a responsible manner. Moreover, Spin collaborates with private companies, advocacy groups, and local organizations to create a mobility solution that addresses the unique needs and challenges of each city or university campus.

New Approach: Fixed Charging Stations for Better Availability and Order

Spin has been a part of the Ford mobility division since November 2018. Spin and Ford are working together to enter new markets and enable sustainable and innovative mobility solutions with their successful business model. Recently, they announced investments in product and infrastructure projects that support sustainable mobility through e-scooter sharing. This includes the establishment of hundreds of charging stations (known as Spin Hubs) across the United States to make electric scooters more readily available and to avoid uncontrolled large gatherings of electric scooters in one location.
