The Ford Performance F-150 Lightning SuperTruck won the 102nd edition of the Pikes Peak International Hillclimb last weekend: With a time of 8:53.533 minutes, Romain Dumas distanced all 60 competitors who entered the main race on the 12.42 miles (19.99 km) long course. Just a few days earlier, the Frenchman set a new qualifying record of 3:32.831 minutes on the section of the course used for the time trials of the top category. This beat his own best time from the previous year with the Ford Performance SuperVan 4.2 by more than seven seconds, which was 3:39.939 minutes.

"The development of Ford's fully electric vehicles continues to progress. The fact that we simultaneously face and successfully master one of the toughest challenges in motorsport highlights how motivated and dedicated our teams approach the program," emphasizes Mark Rushbrook, Global Director of Ford Performance Motorsports.

Last year, the team learned a lot with the SuperVan 4.2 at the Pikes Peak International Hillclimb. Dumas' performance is all the more respectable given the technical problems that forced the Frenchman to a complete stop during his time attack. Thanks to the quick reaction of the Pikes Peak veteran, this involuntary halt only cost around 26 seconds. After a complete system reset of the 1,177 kW (1,600 hp) F-150 Lightning SuperTruck, the 46-year-old stormed up the mountain to the finish at 4,302 meters above sea level.

"I am honored to have achieved this success at the Pikes Peak International Hillclimb together with Ford," explains Dumas. "Everything about this event poses a challenge. It is different from other events simply because you only have one single attempt. After the problems at the beginning of my run, I drove even more determinedly to make up for the lost time."

For the F-150 Lightning SuperTruck, the performance division again worked closely with experts from STARD (Stohl Advanced Research and Development) from Austria. The race car also featured details such as a state-of-the-art restraint system from Sparco and special Pirelli P-Zero tires to be prepared for the demanding "Race to the Clouds" with its 156 turns.
