For example Augsburg: Mobility flat combines public transport, bike, and car

A flat rate to counter high fuel prices: The Lech metropolis surpasses the grand Munich and introduces a mobility flat rate that combines bus & tram, bikes via Nextbike, and carsharing. Prices range from 67 to 129 euros/month.

The Bavarian-Swabian metropolis of Augsburg has introduced a mobility flat rate that allows citizens to use not only public transport such as buses and trams but also Nextbike rental bikes and the city's own car-sharing service. In three categories, along with basic and premium classifications, users can tailor the offer to their own needs. The price range of the swa offer starts at 67 euros per month for the Basic Flat S with an inner-city public transport subscription, 30 minutes of free bike rental (multiple times daily), as well as 60 hours or 600 kilometers of annual car-sharing allowance.

The top package is the Premium L offer, which allows the transport of four children and three adults in inner-city public transport, free bike rental up to 30 minutes (multiple times daily), and above all, 3,600 annual kilometers or 360 hours in the shared car. Additionally, there's a partner card for car-sharing included. The higher costs of the respective packages are primarily based on the most expensive transport and traffic means, the car, while the basic offer of public transport and bike rental remains similar. Also always included is the usage in 17 other sharing association regions. The initial contract term is twelve months. So far, the offer is specifically aimed at private customers.

"You have the freedom to always take something anywhere at any time, which is best for the situation," explained car-switcher José Almeida, who saves thousands of euros per year compared to owning a car, to BR24.

The city of Augsburg had already introduced the so-called City Zone in 2020, where people can use public transport for free in the city center. This costs the municipality several hundred thousand euros a year.

"Here in Augsburg with the free City Zone, there was political will. The money was made available, and then the zone was established," explained Jürgen Fergg, spokesman for Stadtwerke Augsburg, in BR24.
