Flow Carsharing expands electric fleet with Invers CloudBoxx to 25 locations

The North German provider for shared mobility, Flow Carsharing, has been relying on the CloudBoxx carsharing technology from Invers, consisting of hardware and software, since this spring. This will allow the growing fleet of electric cars in Schleswig-Holstein to be reliably integrated into the back-end, connected in the company's own user app, and managed using real-time data. At stations in Kiel, Flensburg, Rendsburg, Schleswig, Eckernförde, Büdelsdorf, Fockbek, Silberstedt, Borgstedt, and Ahlefeld-Bistensee, customers can flexibly and contactlessly rent electric cars via the app and even use them for one-way trips, meaning they can return them at a different location.

In addition to the classic carsharing business, Flow Carsharing operates its own charging stations to improve the charging infrastructure and offer customers a comprehensive mobility package. The idea of electric carsharing was developed by CEO Florian Kolberg during the Corona pandemic. The car rental expert was fascinated by the new type of drive and convinced that carsharing also works in smaller towns and communities because mobility needs are changing.

"A lot is possible in Schleswig-Holstein," says Kolberg, CEO of Flow Carsharing. "And I am sure that carsharing does not only work in big cities."

This is also shown by the statistics: In February 2024, the Federal Association of Carsharing found in its annual survey that carsharing continues its growth trend in the regions. At the beginning of 2024, carsharing was offered in 1,285 cities and municipalities in Germany, 203 more than the previous year. New offerings have particularly been added in small towns in rural areas, so currently a total of 1,127 places with fewer than 50,000 inhabitants have a carsharing offering.

"This trend is also evident internationally in user expectations," says Alexander Kirn, CEO of Invers. "According to the latest edition of the Mobility Consumer Survey by McKinsey, 77 percent of the urban population says there is a shift from vehicle ownership to vehicle access, and in rural regions, it is already 53 percent."
