Flix wants to conquer the Indian market
The long-distance bus provider Flix continues to expand internationally – in 2024, the first routes in metropolitan areas are set to start in India, the 42nd Flix country and the most populous in the world. Specific details on routes and schedules have not yet been announced.
"India is one of the most promising markets in the world," said company co-founder André Schwämmlein. "We will invest significantly there and aim to become the market leader, as we are in all Flix countries."
The goal is to "build the best long-distance bus network in India," according to the accompanying press release, with a focus on "growing not only profitably but also responsibly and sustainably."
Collaboration with regional, medium-sized bus companies
As in all other countries, Flix does not plan to operate its own bus fleet in India, but will instead cooperate with regional, medium-sized bus companies. In this model, Flix primarily acts as an intermediary for the trips and takes care of customer service, network planning, and marketing. This business model benefits the regional economy through increased tourism and tax revenue, as local companies are more supported and new jobs are created, the company believes.
The demand for sustainable collective travel options is enormous in India and continues to rise. Additionally, online bookings are also trending in India and becoming increasingly popular. Given the vast market potential, expansion is a logical step.
