Fisker Pear – a pear of Bavarian origin?

Besides the "Ocean", Fisker is also pushing forward with the "Pear" project. As early as 2019, Bavarian Stefan Zeuner had registered a concept of an electric vehicle with an underfloor charging compartment as "Birn" for a patent.

Already in 2019, Stefan Zeuner developed a vehicle concept that he named after a pear in Franconian-Bavarian dialect. The concept "Pear" now comes from Henrik Fisker. | Graphic: Zeuner

A flexible, fold-out underfloor loading compartment that can transform a low-lying sports car into a ski or wood board transporter – that was the core idea of Stefan Zeuner. And since the whole thing was based on a shooting brake which, roughly speaking in terms of proportions, resembled a “pear,” the entire project was carried out under that very name. Over time, Zeuner expanded the concept with various insertable and click-on cargo ideas: so that the “pear” boxes could also simply be picked up or set down from the ground, and so on and so forth. The visual challenge remained, to bridge the distance from the wheel-well, which made the raised “pear” look somewhat strange.

Zeuner compiled all of this into a utility model, which he also registered and wanted to further drive towards patenting and production readiness through a “business angel.” But, according to Zeuner, the entire project stalled – his “business angel” became increasingly elusive and more vague regarding potential investors. But Zeuner was quite amazed when Henrik Fisker announced the “Pear” project. We also found the somewhat “clumsy” name for a concept that, according to Fisker, was supposed to come with a completely novel cargo concept rather surprising.

Zeuner has once again taken the trouble to compare his "Birne" and "Pear," and it remains to be seen whether the unusual concept of the somewhat cumbersome under-floor store will ever make it into production. Or whether an often-rumored "Apple" car might actually beat the "pear" to the punch...

What does that mean?

Electric mobility is producing some wild and exciting developments—but also new ideas and concepts. It remains to be seen which of these will truly be sustainable. Sometimes, however, it might be healthier to just eat the fruit rather than reinterpret it as vehicle concepts.
