Fisker Ocean: Series Production at Magna Started
According to Fisker, there are now over 63,000 reservations for the Ocean. In the configurator, the "Ultra" starts at 57,000 euros (net 47,900 euros), the "Extreme" from 69,960 euros (just under 58,790 euros). The base model will be the Ocean Sport starting at 41,560 euros (34,925 euros net). Henrik Fisker, Chairman and CEO of Fisker, commented at the production start in Austria, which he attended:
"It is an emotional day as we start production of the world's most sustainable vehicle in record time – on schedule – in the CO2-neutral factory in Graz."
Production starts with the limited special model Fisker Ocean ONE, which went on pre-sale in July 2022. All 5,000 units were ordered within 30 days. The ONE is based on the top variant Extreme. This means: dual-motor all-wheel drive, CATL cells with NMC chemistry. The base model Sport, on the other hand, has to make do with front-wheel drive and LFP battery.
Extremely slow ramp-up – Fisker communicates cautiously about quantities
Fisker does not state how many vehicles are to be built in 2022. However, there are exact and very cautious figures for 2023: For the first quarter of 2023, only 300 units are planned, for the second quarter over 8,000, for the third quarter more than 15,000, and in the fourth quarter 2023 is expected to conclude with a total number of 42,400 produced Fisker Oceans. This would mean that production of the special model would be completed during the second quarter and the other variants could start. However, this still means more than a year of waiting time for customers who have recently ordered.
From 2024, according to information from May 2022, production is then to be tripled to 150,000 Oceans per year. This could include assembly in the USA.
What does this mean?
As a rule, Fisker is also one of those who like to make grand announcements. But after having had problems with his original model, the Karma, just when ramping up production, he is communicating very cautiously with the Ocean – which helps with credibility, as does Magna in Graz, where they also assemble Jaguar and the G-Class from Mercedes-Benz.
