Finepower relies on bidirectional charging of high-performance batteries
The sales and engineering expert Finepower is expanding its portfolio to include bidirectional charging technology and is collaborating with the Bavarian State Ministry for Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy (STMWi) on its development. Fleet operators who want to electrify their offerings could particularly benefit from this in the future: According to the company, it is assumed that providers could strive for energy independence, also due to easier access to renewable energies. If this becomes a reality, large areas for photovoltaic systems and wind farms would be needed to install their own grids and charging points that are efficient enough to also cover peak electricity demands. However, a "smarter grid storage system" could counteract this by storing the energy during maximum availability, which would then be provided at another time as needed. This could direct power flows and stabilize demand.
After charging is before charging
According to the Ismaning-based company, batteries from e-vehicles are particularly suitable for this charging technology due to their high capacities. Accordingly, a wireless charging system for bidirectional operation would need to be installed in advance. The planning from the beginning of the construction is crucial, says Finepower, especially to take into account forward and backward modes. This way, vehicles would be supplied with energy quasi-application-free and sustainably.
