After multiple delays, Porsche presented the new Macan in Singapore. It comes as the Macan 4 with 300 kW (408 PS) and the Macan Turbo with 470 kW (639 PS) and, according to WLTP, offers a range of 516 to 613 km depending on engine and equipment, of which, in our experience, 300 to 350 km remain even in the worst case. It is therefore also suitable for long distances, especially since it can be charged with up to 270 kW DC thanks to 800-volt technology.

With HPC, the battery can be charged from ten to 80 percent in the best case within 21 minutes. At 400-volt stations, the so-called bank charging process uses a high-voltage switch in the battery to split the 800-volt battery with a capacity of 100 kWh (95 kWh usable) into two batteries, each with a nominal voltage of 400 volts. According to Porsche, this enables extra-efficient charging without an additional HV booster with up to 135 kW. Unfortunately, AC charging at household wallboxes is only possible with up to 11 kW.

The consumption values do not set any really new benchmarks but are favorable for what is offered: Porsche states 17.9 to 21.1 kWh/100 km for the Macan 4, and 18.8 to 20.7 kWh/100 km for the Macan Turbo, meaning the "Turbo surcharge" practically disappears: Even the top model can go up to 591 km. During driving, up to 240 kW of energy can be recuperated via the e-machines. Furthermore, the so-called Integrated Power Box (IPB) is said to enhance efficiency and save weight and installation space: The compact IPB combines the onboard AC charger, high-voltage heater, and the DC/DC converter.

Despite the battery in the floor, the passengers sit lower!

Both models use the latest generation of permanently excited PSM electric motors. The maximum torque is 650 and 1,130 Nm respectively. The Macan 4 accelerates from a standstill to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds, while the Macan Turbo takes 3.3 seconds. The top speed is limited to 220 km/h, the Turbo can blow up to 260 km/h. Electronics control the chassis: On board is, among other things, Porsche Traction Management (ePTM), Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus), Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) with two-valve technology, and an optional rear-axle steering with a maximum steering angle of five degrees. This results in a compact turning circle of 11.1 meters and particularly high driving stability at higher speeds.

Additionally, there is high computing power and connectivity with up to three screens, including a 12.6-inch instrument cluster and a 10.9-inch central display. Pleasant: Depending on the model and equipment, the driver and front passenger now sit up to 28 millimeters lower, and the rear passengers sit up to 15 millimeters lower with increased legroom than before!

And it can also be practical: The volume behind the rear seat, depending on the model and equipment, is up to 540 liters (in the steep cargo position). If the rear seat backrest is completely folded down, the rear cargo volume increases to up to 1,348 liters. Under the front hood, Porsche provides a large 84-liter frunk. And towing capacity? Up to two tons!

Porsche kept the size growth in check: The new model is 4,784 millimeters long, 1,938 millimeters wide, and 1,622 millimeters high and stands on wheels up to 22 inches in size with mixed tires. The wheelbase has grown by 86 to 2,893 millimeters compared to the predecessor, which helps with interior space and proportions. Thanks to Porsche Active Aerodynamics (PAA) with active and passive elements, the drag coefficient (cW) was reduced to 0.25. The new Macan models, produced CO₂-neutrally in Leipzig, will be delivered in the second half of 2024.

What does that mean?

It was a long and tough process: PPE is finally ready and Porsche can deliver the Macan. Not too late, as the competition is not sleeping either!
