In the year of its 125th anniversary, Fiat recorded a positive half-year result, thus consolidating its status as the volume-leading brand of the Stellantis Group. With over 660,200 vehicles sold worldwide, the Italian manufacturer achieved an increase of 2.2% in the months from January to June 2024 compared to the same period the previous year.

Gains in All Regions

Fiat's sales results for the first half of 2024 show a significant increase in sales figures in several regions. In North America, the brand achieved a growth of 24%, attributable to the market launch of the Fiat 500 electric. In June, the Fiat House was opened in Fort Lee near New York. The first residential building in the world under the brand's logo offers more than 300 rental apartments, characterized by efficient use of space and high-quality furnishings. This concept is set to shape the future of urban living.

In the Middle East/Africa region, Fiat recorded an increase of 7.6%. In the Asia-Pacific region, the brand grew by 5%, and in South America by 2.3%. In South America, the Italians further consolidated their leading position with a market share of 14%, supported by the number one position in Brazil with a market share of 20.4%. Additionally, Fiat was the market leader in Italy and Turkey with a market share of 12.3% each, as well as in Algeria with a remarkable 68.3%. The success in these regions is mirrored in the positions of individual models: the Panda was the best-selling car in Italy, the Tipo in Turkey, and the Doblò in Algeria.

Fiat in the Home Market

In the first half of 2024, Fiat was able to maintain its leading market position throughout Europe. In Italy, the brand sold 95,779 vehicles, an increase of 2.0% compared to the same period the previous year. With a share of 10.8%, the manufacturer was the market leader in passenger cars at home. The Panda, produced in Pomigliano d'Arco in southern Italy, was still the best-selling vehicle overall in Italy with over 63,500 units sold. This figure represents an increase of 21.0% compared to the first half of 2023. The current Fiat 500 Hybrid ranks second in the A-segment with 14,700 registrations, just behind the Panda.

E-models on the Rise

The Fiat 500 Electric leads its segment in Italy with a market share of 27%. The Fiat 600e was the front-runner in the B-segment of electrically powered SUVs with a share of 11.0%. Further growth could be driven by the Fiat 600 Hybrid, introduced in June.

Fiat in the rest of Europe

Fiat has also achieved remarkable results in other European markets. In Spain, the brand was clearly leading in the city car segment with a share of 55.0%. The Fiat 500 Hybrid was also the market leader in its segment with 7,720 sales, corresponding to a market share of 43.0%. Moreover, the model recorded a 26.8% increase in sales to private customers. The Panda recorded the highest industry growth in its segment for private customer sales in the first half of 2024 in Spain, almost quadrupling its sales compared to 2023, establishing itself as an affordable hybrid model.

Sales of the brand’s cars have also noticeably increased in other European countries: by 7.6% in France, by 5.5% in the Netherlands, and by 15.1% in Portugal. The Fiat 500 Electric continues to perform well among electrically powered mini and compact cars (segments A+B). In the past six months, the model ranked in the top five of the registration statistics in the largest European markets: it led its segment in Germany, was number 2 in Italy and France, number 3 in Spain, and number 4 in the UK.

Fiat Professional

In the first half of 2024, Fiat Professional recorded robust growth worldwide in the commercial vehicle segment. The global sales of the commercial vehicle brand increased by 15%. In Italy, the commercial vehicle brand recorded a sales increase of 5.1%, thereby solidifying its position as the market leader in the light commercial vehicle sector with a market share of 24.2%. Fiat Professional was also leading in the home market in the segment of battery-electric commercial vehicles with a market share of 13.1%.

The Ducato, manufactured in Atessa, central Italy, was the best-selling van in Italy from January to June 2024 with nearly 11,000 registrations. In the large van segment, the model led with a share of 23.8%. Additionally, the Doblò led the compact van segment with a market share of 22.4%. The Scudo ranked second in the mid-size van segment with a market share of 17.3%.

The commercial vehicle brand also increased sales in other European countries, including France (+2.3%), Germany (+6.2%), and the UK (+13.2%). In the UK, Fiat Professional also sold 11.0% more electrically powered vans. In Spain, the Ducato remained the brand’s flagship with 3,432 sales—a 40% increase compared to the first half of 2023.

New models

From autumn, Fiat aims to underpin the upward trend with new models. The Grande Panda, the Abarth 600e, and the exclusive special model Fiat 500 Electric Giorgio Armani will be launched. The new Fiat 500 Ibrida, which will be produced at the Mirafiori plant in Turin, will follow at the end of 2025 or early 2026. In addition, Fiat is advancing the development of SUV and fastback vehicle models, which are expected to come to market in the coming years.

What does this mean?

For Europe, Fiat has made the bold decision to completely electrify its model range. The new and future versions of the 500, 600, and Grande Panda series will be available both with 100% electric drive and hybrid technology. With this strategy, the Italian brand ensures that a vehicle purchased today will retain good market value in the future.
