Once, a rough timeframe from 2025 to 2030 was given for Fiat – at some point during this period, the brand was supposed to become a BEV brand – at least in Europe. Great emphasis was placed on affordability: Fiat would become an all-electric brand only once electric cars were cheaper or at least not more expensive than comparable combustion engines. In the presentation, there was now a sheet that read: "100% BEV Portfolio by 2027 in Europe."

It could succeed, as Fiat's electric 500 quickly outpaces the combustion engine and the Panda will soon be replaced. The second major workhorse in the literal sense, the Ducato, is also available in an electric version. This leaves the Tipo, as well as the 500 L and 500 X, still to be electrified, and a Stellantis platform should be ready for these by 2027. According to Stellantis, the electric 500 was the best-selling BEV in twelve countries in 2021 – Fiat was able to sell a total of 44,000 units worldwide. Additionally, the commercial vehicles e-Ducato and e-Scudo are included in the program, with an e-Ulysse expected to follow this year.

With Fiat and Abarth, the number of Stellantis brands switching to BEV – at least in Europe – increases to six. DS starts in 2024, Lancia in 2026, Alfa Romeo in 2027, and Opel in 2028. Stellantis also announced its model plan with a total of 13 new BEVs and eight PHEVs by the end of 2023. Among them are two Citroen models, a model from the Fiat brand (possibly the E-Panda), and a fully electric Jeep.

What does this mean?

Before the merger with Stellantis, it was clear that the FCA branch urgently needed to catch up in terms of pure e-mobility. This is now the case. Fiat, Lancia, Alfa, and Jeep will (and must) deliver. Moreover, Fiat currently has a good run with its few electric models.
