Ferronordic, the service and sales company, has ordered 32 fully electric medium-duty trucks from Renault Trucks and Volvo Trucks. According to a press release, the vehicles are expected to be operational by the end of the first quarter of 2022. In addition, the service and sales company, which operates as a dealer for Volvo Trucks and Renault Trucks in parts of Germany, will invest in training, charging infrastructure, and other equipment necessary for the repair and maintenance of electric trucks.

Ferronordic's order for electric trucks includes 21 Renault Trucks D Z.E and D Wide Z.E and eleven Volvo FL and Volvo FE Electric. The vehicles each have four or five batteries with a total capacity of 264 or 330 kWh, respectively. The chassis for the trucks will be delivered in the first quarter of 2022 and subsequently fitted with bodies in Germany. Ferronordic plans to initially use the vehicles as demonstration vehicles before selling or renting them to customers. The medium-duty electric trucks are primarily intended for customers involved in distribution transport and will be offered in the so-called last-mile delivery segment, the company reports.

Ferronordic expects that the demand for electric trucks in Germany will increase because the technology reduces pollutant and noise emissions and improves driver comfort. The dealer also anticipates that restrictions on diesel trucks, especially in larger cities, will increase in the European Union. This will also boost demand for lower-emission vehicles. Additionally, the current subsidy programs will further fuel interest in electric trucks.

To also prepare the workshop network for electric trucks, Ferronordic plans to invest in the training of mechanics, charging stations, and battery replacement equipment. Lars Corneliusson, CEO of Ferronordic, comments:

“We are very pleased to collaborate with Volvo Trucks and Renault Trucks to support the widespread introduction of electric vehicles in Germany. The right expertise and the promotion of electromobility are essential components of our vision to be a leading sales and service company in our markets. By making the necessary investments in electromobility, we are also driving further utilization of our network in Germany and thereby contributing to the electrification of the transport industry.”
