Federal Network Agency: Majority of municipalities without charging stations
According to recent figures from the Federal Network Agency based on a request from the Left Party faction in the Bundestag, every second municipality in Germany does not have a single public charging point for electric cars. The 25,376 charging stations with 49,207 charging points (CP) in public spaces are therefore unevenly distributed. In response to the request from the Left Party faction leader Dietmar Bartsch, the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs replied, according to the Funke Media Group, that of the 10,796 municipalities in Germany, 6,516 had no charging facilities.
The availability is particularly sparse in Rhineland-Palatinate, with many small municipalities (1,962 out of 2,302 without CP), as well as in Thuringia (491 out of 633 without CP). Although Bavaria has the highest absolute number of charging points in Germany, this too is unevenly distributed and is concentrated in cities like Munich (944 out of 2,059 without CP). In North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), on the other hand, only eight out of a total of 396 locations are without a charging option in public spaces.
