Fastned expands to Italy and opens largest station in Switzerland
The Dutch fast charging network pioneer Fastned has announced its expansion into Italy and has signed a contract with the A4 Holding Group, operator of one of Europe's busiest motorways, the A4 Brescia–Padova in Northern Italy, for the construction of Fastned's first fast charging station in Italy. The expansion is an important milestone for the company and aims to achieve the goal of building 1,000 charging stations across Europe. As usual, it relies on its concept of drive-through stations with solar roofs. The station, strategically located at the Brescia Est motorway exit, targets both e-mobilists in Italy and those traveling from Switzerland to Southern Italy.
Measured by the number of motorway kilometers, Italy is one of the largest countries in Europe and records a car density per capita that is above the European average, making it an important market. In the field of electromobility, the country has a great need for fast charging stations. To meet the steadily growing demand, the new Fastned station will open with eight charging points with a capacity of up to 400 kW. There is also the possibility to double its capacity to a total of 16 charging points.
Additionally, the provider announced the opening of the largest Fastned station in Switzerland to date on October 5. It is located directly on the A1 motorway, at the Büsisee-Nord exit. The construction of the station has been a challenge in many respects, the Dutch said.
