Fastned expands to France

First four French stations open, five more to follow, all along the Paris-Dijon and Dijon-Lyon highways. The stations are expected to charge hundreds of electric cars per day, providing up to 300 km in 15 minutes. Part of the Ministry of Energy Transition's concept for fast-charging infrastructure by the end of 2022.

The Dutch rapid charging network operator Fastned has opened its first four rapid charging stations in France and plans to expand quickly. The facilities are intended to offer drivers high-quality charging options along major highways between Paris and Lyon in the future. The provider won the contract for the tender from the French highway and toll company APRR/AREA. After the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, the company is now adding the sixth country to a comprehensive network of rapid charging infrastructure. Drivers should be able to charge their vehicles in 15 minutes with up to 300 km, depending on the onboard charger. The typically designed stations with solar roofs should be able to supply hundreds of cars per day with 100 percent renewable electricity.

Rapidly Increasing Sales Figures for Electric Vehicles

The charging stations support the goal of Autoroutes Paris-Rhin-Rhône (APRR) to establish a high-quality fast-charging infrastructure along the main highways in France. This is to respond to the rapidly increasing number of electric vehicles in the country, it says. The share of battery-powered electric vehicles continues to grow in France and now accounts for around 10 percent of new car sales, compared to 1.2 percent in 2017. Additionally, Fastned is part of the French Ministry of Energy Transition's plan to establish electric vehicle charging stations nationwide by 2022. The company specializes in the development and operation of fast-charging stations at high-traffic locations along highways and in cities. Since its founding in 2012, the company has established 176 fast-charging stations across Europe.
