Fastned expands app to include 150,000 charging stations from external operators
The Dutch fast-charging pioneer Fastned has expanded its app to now include not only its own HPC charging stations but also AC and fast chargers from other providers. Users across Europe can now find a charging station near them among 400,000 charging stations from various operators at 150,000 locations, according to the provider. The app covers 50 countries. This, the company says, is intended to meet the different needs in various situations, regardless of the operator.
The update wasn't drafted in a boardroom meeting but by the users themselves, who indicated how overwhelmed they were by the many different apps on their phones, sketches Robin Wouters, Director of Product Management & Engineering at Fastned. After recently integrating Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the next crucial step is expanding the app to include charging stations from other operators.
Translated automatically from German."We want to make the lives of electric car drivers easier by consolidating all information into one easy-to-use app. Moreover, we emphasized quality over overwhelming quantity. The closer users zoom into the map, the more options are displayed, while at a higher level, only the fastest charging stations at the largest locations are shown to avoid overwhelming users with too many options," Wouters further explains.
