The Belgian e-bike manufacturer Cowboy is now utilizing the trade-in program from Upway, the specialist in refurbishing used e-bikes. Owners of over 200 e-bike brands can trade in their old model for a brand-new Cowboy bike with an additional discount. The old e-bike will then be overhauled and resold via the Upway platform. This offer facilitates the sale of used e-bikes and promotes the circular economy, according to the provider. Upway's trade-in program allows individuals and businesses to easily sell or exchange their e-bikes. The valuation tool calculates the buyback value of an e-bike. Owners simply need to enter the basic data of their current bike, such as model, year, primary use, and mileage, to receive an initial estimate.

The Upway buyback tool can be integrated into any platform. The e-bike manufacturer is now employing this technology on its own website. Cowboy experts then inspect the e-bike to confirm the estimated value. This can happen at home, at a Cowboy store, or at participating bicycle dealers. After confirming the estimate, the experts take the bike. Owners receive a trade-in voucher for the value of the e-bike, which averages around 1,000 euros. Additionally, owners receive a discount of 150 euros, which can be redeemed for any new Cowboy model. This additional discount is only valid for e-bikes of the brand. Owners of Cowboy e-bikes can switch their models during the summer. All other brands can be traded immediately via the integrated tool on the website.

A second life thanks to experienced e-bike mechanics

The traded-in e-bikes are refurbished by experienced mechanics at various locations in Europe, including Berlin. After a thorough inspection, the bicycles are resold via the Upway website. The new owners receive a one-year warranty on the frame, battery, motor, and electronics of the e-bike. This way, e-bikes get a second life and more consumers have the opportunity to buy an e-bike at an affordable price. The refurbished e-bikes are up to 60 percent cheaper than a new e-bike. Without compromising on quality and reliability.

“Our mission is simple: to make electromobility more affordable and sustainable by refurbishing used e-bikes and giving them a second life,” explains Toussaint Wattinne, co-founder and CEO of Upway.

By 2030, more e-bikes are expected to be sold than cars, according to Wattinne's forecast. Therefore, it is important to promote access to a reliable secondary market for used e-bikes. The cooperation with Cowboy contributes to developing a scalable secondary market for used Cowboy e-bikes. The program will be available in Belgium, Germany, France, the Netherlands, and Austria.

“Our partnership with Upway aligns with our goal of promoting the health and environmental benefits of e-bikes, and that is why we want to make Cowboy models as accessible as possible. Now, with the easy trade-in from home, they are more affordable than ever before,” advertises Charles Van Haverbeke, Chief Sales Officer at Cowboy.
