Eurobike 2023: The Bicycle as a Game Changer in Transportation

The second edition of the newly launched trade fair in Frankfurt concluded with a positive report from the organizer. The bicycle is seen as the ultimate means to address the challenges of climate change and urbanization. HUSS-VERLAG was present with "Cargobike of the Year" Test Days.

All bike paths lead to Frankfurt: At least, that's how the organizer of the world leading trade fair for the bicycle industry sees it after the second edition in the Main metropolis. Over the five event days, they have reaffirmed their position as the world leading trade fair for the bike and future mobility industry, according to the fair organizers from fairnamic. The top mark of more than 1,900 exhibiting companies was followed by 34,750 trade visitors and 31,840 consumers over the weekend (2022: 33,780 Business Days and 27,370 Festival Days), showing growing visitor approval, so the balance goes. HUSS-VERLAG was on-site with the "Test Days" for its competition "International Cargobike of the Year", thus giving special emphasis on commercial cargo bike usage and its potentials. The final and the award ceremony will take place at the IAA MOBILITY in September. The Eurobike reflected the dynamic pace at which mobility on two or more wheels is now progressing, says Stefan Reisinger, Managing Director of the organizing company fairnamic GmbH.

"This year's show seamlessly continued the success of last year's premiere. We were able to increase both quantitatively and qualitatively and have great momentum. In Frankfurt, we spread the radiance that the industry currently needs. With this, Eurobike becomes a driver of the transportation revolution and puts the bike, e-bike, and light electric mobility even more into focus."

The exhibiting companies can also draw a positive conclusion after five pulsating trade fair days. Bernhard Lange, managing partner of Paul Lange & Co. OHG, explains on their behalf that the increased national and international visitor turnout shows that the fair has found its new home in Frankfurt and has finally restored its status as the world's leading trade fair for the bicycle industry.

"Of course, everyone is aware that challenging months lie ahead. But with the consistently positive, optimistic, and combative atmosphere that was palpable everywhere, Eurobike sends a very important signal. Because cycling - this was more than clear in Frankfurt - is indispensable as a core element of modern, sustainable mobility. In the medium term, great times lie ahead of us," enthuses Lange.

A total of 122 countries were represented among the crowd at Messe Frankfurt, providing the best atmosphere across 150,000 square meters of hall space and a large outdoor area until the event closed on Sunday. Manufacturers of e-bikes, sport and everyday bikes, and new, sustainable mobility forms were just as present at Eurobike as providers of accessories, suppliers, service providers, or trade organizations. Overall, a positive mood of optimism was registered, which also radiates strongly into politics and the global media landscape. At the National Cycling Congress held in conjunction with Eurobike, Hesse's Minister for Economy, Energy, Transport and Housing, Tarek Al-Wazir, said:

"I was particularly pleased that the National Cycling Congress could be held for the first time in connection with Eurobike. This demonstrates the economic importance of cycling and strengthens the exchange between the different stakeholders."

In Frankfurt, there is a broad consensus: Humanity is at a turning point with climate change, digitalization, urbanization, and demographic change. It will only be possible to overcome these major challenges of our time together with all players in the bike and mobility industry.

The 31st Eurobike, with around 200 registered world premieres and more than 300 submissions for the Eurobike Award, was also a strong showcase of innovation. Heiko Müller, founder and managing director of Riese & Müller, is convinced that the industry can optimistically go into the new season:

"The market, as well as our products and innovations, are definitely ready for the future, and the bicycle industry thus has the power to change mobility." The walk through the exhibition halls made it clear: The e-bike is and remains the proverbial engine of progress. Completely new target groups will be tapped into here in the future."

In addition to the trade audience, enthusiasm for cycling also mobilized consumers over the weekend with the Eurobike Festival Days. 31,840 cycling enthusiasts marveled at the show performances with world stars from the trial and BMX scene, cheered at the Bembel-Crit cycling race, extensively tested bike novelties in the demo area, or found out about international cycling travel offers in the Bike Travel Area.

"For two days, the industry celebrated the theme of cycling and micromobility with all bike fans. The response to this was very good and we were able to spark diverse enthusiasm to get more people on bikes in the future," says Eurobike project manager Dirk Heidrich.
